Your tub looks like it has been fully colonized by reishi. You (more than likely) no longer have to worry about mold or other contamination. Enjoy watching them grow
And no more worrying!!!

Went for a walk in the park today. I see reishi in our community forest sprouted on all kinds of trees like weeds Gonna go collect them and check to see if they are legit. With these tubs and the wild ones I will get tomorrow I should have more reishi than I know what to do with

Im still reading Paul Stamets book by the way. Why is it after a certain point the mycellium makes contaminants harder to show up? Or how come mycellium at times can over run contaminants, can it defend itself at all?

Awesome!
Whereabouts do you live? I think reishi is pretty much out of season here, any fruits I find lately are rotten and unusable. Last good ones I found were like 3 weeks ago. But I've got quite a few locations in mind for next season

Yeah reishi should be pretty easy to spot, season is probably different out there. Fruits are best if there's still white growth around the edges of the conk, but as long as there's no mold growing on them, and the texture/smell seems normal they should be good to use. Be sure to dry them quickly.

About that.....can't I thinly slice fresh reishi I and soak it in ever clear? Why dry them?

You probably could. I just think, if they're already moist, I'm not sure they'll want to absorb the alcohol you put them in, and could rot. Also I like to make sure any bugs/larvae/eggs in them are dead as fuck. That's just me though, who knows, it might work fine

I dry mind in the sun with the underside up for the vitamin D then I put them in my solar oven for a final cook to kill all bug. the bad part is they are very hard to slide once they are dry. by the way I am in san jose ca and I have not found any reishi yet.

From what I have been reading.. Myc and other molds aren't the best of friends, but the enemy of my enemy is my friend and they all hate bacteria. Myc from fungi is tough as shit and some release antibacterial defenses. I don't think it answers your question, but should at least spark somebody's interest enough to either elaborate or debunk.. then we will both know for sure. hope this wasn't a waste of time.
