Dcart, those are all persicinas. However, I would only keep the first two. Go ahead and get those babies drying! Discard the stems... My new method is to toast the caps in the oven for a while (til they start to juice) then move them to a dehydrator or just fan dry them to finish them off. The oven at the beginning kills any bacteria or bugs present, and kickstarts the drying process. You could finish them in the oven, but I think you lose some of the properties. After they are finished air-drying, before consumption, give them a final toast to decarboxylate any muscimol that had turned back into ibotenic acid during storage.

Sounds good! Thanks hash.

Lets say that one of these days I decide that I want to parboil and eat the mushroom- not for effects. Would I still discard the stem?

I'm looking forward to a fun season.

No the stems would be great in that scenario. I think I'm going to go out tomorrow and collect some larger mushrooms for consumption. I do eat them as is, but I'd like to really eat a lot and get down with their flavor. I hope parboiling doesn't ruin them though, because they have an amazing flavor as is. I hope i'm not disappointed when I taste them parboiled.

I actually took my sketchbook and some charcoals out in the field today to do some drawings. Idk if i'll post those though... The pictures hardly do justice to their beauty in person.

Damn...really nice! I meant to ask you before but forgot... when you harvest these mushrooms for tea, should I take just the cap and leave the stem or should I still dig it all up? Don't want to cause any unnecessary damage to the habitat. And I think my area is just not a favorable area...I went 50 mins north for one job and saw a giant patch of persicina (all badly water logged) in the front yard across the street and two along the side of the road...then I had to go an hour south and the same thing...water logged persicina...went on a three hour hike when I got home...nothing. crazy...would that mean this city is too old for persicina and weilii maybe...?

No like I said you just need to wait a few days after a rain. They like it a bit drier. I usually cut the stem, and remove the cap when I get home. You can peel the skin off and dry that, scrape out the gills then dry, or dry then scrape gills, whichever works. You can also just dry (with heat) and eat as is but you might get more of the side effects (nausea, sweating, vision changes). I like to either peel the skin or scrape out the gills then dry in the oven at 200 cracked open a little to vent. Dry first, then make your tea.

Hash, love to see your sketches...  As I have no 2d talent I very much appreciate it in others.

Thanks for all the help hash! I'm about to go out now. Can't wait to try it out....and if you wouldn't mind, I'd really like to see those sketches also... I've always loved art...kind of sad I stopped painting when I was younger. Favorite thing to do when I was a bit younger.

No! peel and save the skin! I should have specified. Most of the active compounds are in the skin and the layer below the skin. So discard gills and stem. I'm gonna get some better sketches going when I have more time to sit and :bongload:. My girlfriend and I were thinking about doing a whole "shroomery" art series for everyone. We would sculpt, paint, or draw your favorite species upon request and sell them for a good fair price. My lady is the real artist here... I'm just the idealist and the one who finds samples and takes photos. Lol

I would definitely want to invest in some art. That sounds super cool. Do you or you're girl have any art online we could look at? What kind of medium for the sculpting were you thinking of? Sorry, one more question... when you Peel the skin, what do you do with it afterwards?  I've never read anything on this before.

This is a little ceramic figurine she gave an extreme makeover. The mushroom was chipped so she made it look like a bite was taken out of it. The original painter didn't even paint them as muscaria... Just random brown mushrooms. So I had the idea to make little clay figurines of some Gyms clustered on a log, maybe some P. cubensis fruiting out of a little cow patty, a cow to go with it. Lol.

About the skin... Peel it very carefully. It helps to think about peeling the gill layer away rather than peeling the skin off. It can be tricky until you figure out a good method. Then just dry as you would normally. My preferred method is to just scrape the gills out then dry. Before consumption, give a toast to decarboxylate.

Oh snap!

Nice! You get 'em in Georgia? I heard they're not particularly plentiful in the southeast.  Don't find too many here in Virginia...Do you normally find them near conifers or oaks?

That looks really good hash, not just like someone tried to fix it, like it was made that way. I love crazy, trippy art, Dali is a perfect example. You could look at a painting 50 times and find something you didn't see each time.

Derrrrr.  I'm not understanding WHY you would bother separating the skin from the "meat" of the cap if you're keeping both of those parts.

They are extremely plentiful in the southeast... Persicina at least. I don't really see too many guessowii or other. I find the persicina almost exclusively in pine.

Its a preference thing. Gram for gram if you ate just skins you would have a better... well no, different, experience. Like I said, my preferred method is to remove stem and gills, then toast.

Yeah, it sounded kind of ridiculous when I read it...that's mostly why I haven't tried it. And I read it was "like smoking pot"... I'd rather just smoke actual pot and eat the mushroom lol.
