EMC - empathy, mindfullness, & chivalry. 1

It's 4AM right now, and I've been up all night. Just chilling drinking some Yerba mate, bout to get my day started. Job hunting, and gotta run some errands. Maybe play some chess with a friend later. Pretty bored at the moment though, think I might read a book or go for a walk. What's everyone up to this morning?
Edit: Don't forget to love someone today.
The world has been lacking a bit of love, and I'm sure you know someone who needs some.

Well I bought a food dehydrator and I've been having a bitch of a time drying them man, I read somewhere on here that it takes up to 24 hours to completly dry, but I don't like running it when I'm not home because I'm sketched out thinking it will burn my apartment down or something like that
So basically I've been drying them in there, and once they feel cracker dry I take them out but the thing is they end up being bendy like a few hours later. Like before I left for work today I took them out and they felt cracker dry, then I got home and the fuckers were bendy again. So shit, it's becoming kinda a bitch but I'm letting them run all night tonight so it should be all good.

Yeah no doubt, I honestly didn't think they would be this hard to dry. My first grow with a buddy of mine we had like a muffin tray kinda thing that had like a bottom peice attached to it. We drilled some holes in the bottom piece, but some silica gel in there, put on the middle piece and then the mushrooms and then put on the top piece which was like a lid. We fan dried them for a long time before putting them in there though, thing worked like a charm. My version of that this time was two shitty tubberwear containers which I flipped so that the two bottom peices connected to each other, drilled holes in both sides and then the silica gel in the bottom container and mushrooms in the top. As you can probably imagine that thing didnt work worth shit, so I went out a bought the dehydrator on Monday..

Secret to cracker dry -
Stick in front of a fan for 24-72 hours (depending on relative heat and humidity), to get the VAST MAJORITY (~90%) of the water out.
(You can also crack the oven, pull the rack out a little.. and put the shrooms on there, then set on the LOWEST setting for several hours. ) I always prefer the fan method.
Either way, you want to get rid of ~90% of the moisture content before you move on to desiccant (Step 2). Let the air dry method remove the vast majority of the water, the desiccant or dehydrator will take it the rest of the way.
Get Calcium Chloride. (Sold as Damp Rid in home depot). Get an airtight container. (I use a tupperware/rubbermaid, with saran wrap under the lid to serve as a quasi-airtight container) Pour in 1-2" deep layer of calcium chloride. Put something on top to hold the shrooms (you dont want to touch the calcium chloride..). I just used a little wire rack, and covered it with foil to serve as a holder. Put shrooms on the rack. Put layer saran wrap over top of open top. Put the lid on top. (Helps to keep it more airtight) Wait 1-2 days. Bam. Cracker dry.
It's very important to fan dry first. You DO NOT want to stick fresh shrooms in desiccant. If you just stick completely fresh shrooms in desiccant you will over-saturate it and they will likely not get cracker dry, or take a lot longer to do so, and you will have to use 10x as much desiccant to get the job done.
Let the air drying do the majority of the work. the desiccant will suck out whatever is left.

Wicked thanks man, I think instead of using the fan I'm gonna just keep using the dehydrator since I spent like 80$ on it anyways
as for the silica gel part (I got silica gel) how bout I put a layer on the bottom of the container, and then like some paper towel over that and then mushrooms on top of the paper towel and then close the lid. See any problems with that?

I've read somewhere here that if you put them in the oven to dry, there should be a fan blowing towards the oven to circulate the hot air.. not sure if it's necessary tho

hmmm ok I seen you edited it now, so I think i'm either going to just fan it for a while, then finish it in the dehydrator. OR just dehydrator it all the way..... Is the second option a bad choice because that's easiest for me.

i've never seen oven's recommended, psylocin/psylocybin isn't well kept at high temps.
(i assume thats why you emphasized lowest setting)

Not really necessary. Oven already has a fan and the hot air will continually be pumped out creating airflow

I always avoided the oven drying for this reason, but from what I understand it doesn't start to break down until higher temps.
Either way you aren't really sticking it "in" the oven and closing the door. You are pulling the top rack out about 1/4-1/2 of the way.... and leaving the oven door propped open. On the lowest setting... so the shrooms aren't sitting right under the heat element. the low heat will continually be pumped out and will dry the shrooms. I don't think it will get hot enough to hurt anything.
I always just use a fan, because it's goddamn simple. The oven method works a bit faster though, hours instead of days.

Any kind of fan really. As long as it moves air. You just want air constantly being pushed through/across all the shrooms that are laid out.

Also, once they are cracker dry.. to keep them that way.. you want to put them in a plastic bag, with some more desiccant (in a sealed but breathable packet of course, so it's not touching the shrooms), this will keep it long term. Make sure all the air is sucked out or as much as possible before sealing. Ideally you would want to vacuum seal the cracker dry shrooms with a little desiccant in the package with them.
You can put them in the freezer and they can last for years this way. Those silica gel packs you find with shoes and food packets work well. Just make sure they are in AIRTIGHT ziplocs, you don't want any moisture getting it. I would use those super thick freezer ziplocks and usually double it up. Or once sealed in the ziplock put inside a mason jar with some more desiccant for double protection.

Also if you cant find any packets, empty tea bags work well to hold the silica gel in.

Well a dehydrator is a fan with a heating element.. low heat. So it should work fine for removing the majority of the moisture. Basically the same as the oven trick. I'd finish it up with the desiccant in a separate container. The desiccant should be the final stage, to get the last 5-10% of the moisture out. Should be fine to put a couple paper towels over the silica gel. Just gotta make sure the desiccant container is airtight or it wont work properly.

Im here early because I gotta do some house work with my pops today... Either some construction or painting, I hope we are painting! Today is an important day for me because I am beginning to not feel 100% shitty(emotionally and physically) when I wake up in the morning. I will do my best to stay in this baseline type of mood!!! It sucks when just a single passing thought could instantly spiral into a deep depression, and I am not exaggerating It makes life VERY difficult when my thoughts COMPLETELY take over me and I just collapse under the pressure.
So it just takes a lot of mental training and practice, thats all I need to do. Hoping to join some type of karate class and do yoga more often. These 2 practices will help me flourish

Legend said: It's 4AM right now, and I've been up all night.
Seem to have a lot of motivation for someone who was up all night! Good luck with your job hunt

Went to sleep at 6am. Woke up at 12pm.
Not too bad considering I only got 6 hours of sleep. Wish I had woken up earlier though, as I've got a fair amount to do today.

Next time fan off the ash from your fuel, ditch the grate, and cook those fuckers directly on it
Looks killer, dude.

Yeah. Just take a piece of cardboard or something and fan it real hard so there's no ash on them and put them right on. A few minutes on each side, and then a quick sear on the sides (the thin sides, you'll need tongs or something to hold them with).
http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/recipe/adam-perry-langs-clinched-strip-steak-17977341
I use this dudes recipe from his book I bought. His shit is real good. You can just use a simpler garlic butter to baste on the steak though, still plenty good. And I find his rub a little too salty so I go easy on it compared to the recipe.
