First, let me thank every single one of you at the Shroomery. I began my first grow on Aug 11 and was racked with doubt and fear at every turn. But there was always a thread here that answered whatever question was bugging me that day (hell, that half hour).
The last time I attempted a grow all I had available was "The Compleat Psilocybin Cultivator's Bible" (yeah, that long ago). And all I wound up with then were quart jars of nasty black and green blotched grain. I'm not knocking Hongero Press by any means! But cultivation then required mad skills I just never possessed.
So far success! I am using pf tek. Whole brown rice, ground in a coffee mill. 12 half pints pc'd at 15 lbs for 30 minutes then let cool within the pc until inoculation. A bathroom lysol'ed to within an inch of its life was my clean room. My hands, shaky with excitement, squirted too much, too quick(yeah, so like a guy)so that only 9 jars were dosed thru all 4 holes. 2 got only dosed thru 2 holes. One merely got touched with a single tiny drop on one hole.
I incubated the 12 jars in a Styrofoam Omaha-Steaks delivery box. By day 14 they segregated into three groups: the quick growers (4 jars); the slow growers (6 jars); and the no grower (1).
Day 15, the quick growers got set up on the shelf in the light. I'm guessing that I did wrong to keep the jars in the dark for the first 2 weeks? But since they self-segregated, I figured I would promote the 4 quick jars, and hold back the slow growers, to sort of maintain a steady production in the fruiting chamber, once I got to that point.
Day 19, I birthed the most consolidated of the quickies and dunked.
Next day I dried that dunked cake off with paper towels before rolling. The verm only stuck here and there, because I had dried the cake so well. I placed the cake in a SGFC with 3-4 inches of perlite.
Over next two days the cake has gotten fuzzy. I'm scared again.
Last night I birthed 6 other cakes, dunked each in a separate baggie filled with water. (I am keeping notes on which cake respond how.) Today I "bake and shaked" the cakes in a large baggie full of verm WITHOUT drying the cakes off this time. There is MUCH more verm sticking to the cakes. Is this better? Is this bad?
Now 6 cakes are in the fc. The non-grower which got isolated on a shelf on day 12, is now showing non-rhyzomatic fuzzy growth. Yeah!! Four slow growers (not yet 100%) are sitting on the shelf. And 1 quick grower that I don't have room for in the fc I have put in a myco bag (dunked and rolled). I'm wondering if some modified neglect-tek will still result in fruiting on this one? Should I open the bag every day for FAE? or leave it to its micropatch air exchange?
Thank you. I realize this is all just old news for you guys. But I am excited as hell. So far, everything seems to be working. And that only happened because of you all.
