The Gracie Diet

How you doing guys and gals? I was wondering if anybody here knows about the Gracie diet? For those who wonder, it is a different approach to nutrition elaborated by the Gracie family, the ones who were responsible for the Ultimate Fighting Championship and promoting Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. I decided to try this diet for myself since I'm always keen on polishing my lifestyle. The diet is supposed to boost energy levels by simply combining food within specific perimeters so that digestion is facilitated and by sticking to a few core principles.
There are three core principles:
- Eat every 4 hours and a half so that your body has time to digest your last meal.
- Do not have dessert.
- Make sure there is no more than one type of starch in every meal.
Also, foods are grouped into 6 categories:
Group A - Vegetables & Greens, Meats & Seefood, Fats & Oily foods
Group B - Starches
Group C - Sweet fruits, fresh cheese and sugars
Group D - Acidic fruits
Group E - Raw bananas
Group F - Milk
So for example, elements in group A can be mixed together and with one of group B. Elements in group C can also be mised together and with one of group B. Acidic fruits ( group D ) cannot be mixed with any other acidic fruits ( for example, eat only oranges or green apples or grapefruit ) nor with any other food group.
It's not as complicated as it seems at first glance and it's pretty interesting as the Gracie family is known for it's energy and health principles. I definitely like it and plan to stick with it for a while at least.

I followed the Gracie diet pretty closely when I was studying at a Gracie school. Now I'm a bit more liberal with my diet, but I still try and maintain good nutrition and balance.
There's definitely logic behind the diet, in general certain types of foods should not be mixed together at the same time or can interfere with digestion which can lead to bigger problems down the line and diseases.

I agree, it seems only logical after you've given some thought to it. It's like: Why have I never thought about food that way before?
I kinda see it as nutritional alchemy.
If you don't mind me asking: do you still practice jiu-jitsu?

Not actively, I just don't really have enough time these days to attend any dojos due to my schedule. I was lot heavier into Gong Fu than I was ever with Jiu Jitsu though.
You might want to check out the Book Back to Eden - http://www.amazon.com/Back-To-Eden-Jethro-Kloss/dp/0940985101 Written in 1939 but the knowledge in there is very relevant even today, and has a LOT of similarities to the Gracie diet.
