I usually throw it on if i hear the medivac or a bunch of alarms and sirens.

I feel so nosy listening in to all the drama happening outside my bubble. But after i hear whats going on i find myself listening to it for a while.
I also like listening to the CB when on the highways. Truckers normally know whats going on on the road and communicate a lot.

Yeah, the only time I'll turn it on is if I hear a LOT of sirens. Last time I flipped it on was due to a hit and run drunk going through a high speed police chase through town, jumping out of his car and pulling a gun, and getting about 30 rounds tossed in his direction.

damn!! yeah. a while back cops drove by real fast with lights on. I hear a sports car switch a bitch and fly into the lot behind my place. Then I hear it idling out back. I turn on the app and get the 411. cops fly by. Then car hammers down and throws gravel and peels out of the back lot. Then i hear more cops flying past after it. Turned into 120 mph chase. It was neat hearing them talking about what side streets they are taking to intercept. It was really exciting. Live action news. lol I think they got him with the spike strips.

All of the government employees in my area have switched over to city-provided cellphones. The only group that continues to use the radio is the sheriff's department. They will say dispatch 4-20 in progress, and then once they've got the person pulled over, they say dispatch this is officer 123 call me on my secure line (their cellphone) so you get a quite vague idea of what happened.

There's some website that plays scanners over post rock or ambient or something. It's kinda cool. Can't remember the name though.
Wait I got it.

I listen to certain broadcast to have a background noise of some sort from time to time. I have a friend working as an air traffic controller so sometimes I listen to the tower's communications. http://www.liveatc.net/

I wish the fucking cops in my province never got wise and made their communications encrypted and illegal to broadcast. Almost makes you wanna drop jammers all over the city just to fuck with them. Cheap ass radios.

I throw it on every now and then. I have the iPhone app scanner. I'm always working in the hood in NY so depending on the Precinct I'm near I can hear some interesting things. A few weeks back in the matter of 5 mins I heard car theft,self-harm,report of gun, drug dealing, and suspicious activity plus countless accidents. NY's a scary place once you start be nosy and stop micro-managing your life.

Thats pretty awesome!
Viva you got to search your area. Like what ever county or city then EMS,Fire, Police, and public safety.
Yeah a baby just got shot in Brownsville in a stroller a couple days ago. I guess the person was aiming to gun down his father but hit the kid.

I started listening to the police scanner. You wouldn't believe the amount of "Insurer unfounded" I heard tonight. No one in my area has auto insurance apparently. Nothing really crazy happens around here, I guess.
