Why the two are merged?
The science threads get buried under the computer specs ones...

I suggested making a dedicated Computers forum and was shot down, people saying if the computer talk leaves there, there will be no good discussions left, or something dumb like that. And that computers ARE science and technology. Well they are, but so is a million other things. PCs and support are so specific, and has enough topics, it should be its own category. Computer/Tech Support related stuff would be better suited in its own forum, I agree 110%. The science forum doesn't need to be cluttered up with What laptop do I buy? and HALP my computer isn't working right threads.
Right now, most people don't know where to post computer related help threads, so they either pick one of three.. the Pub, Gaming Grotto, or Science and Tech.
I think all the PC stuff detracts from the ACTUAL science discussion, but what do I know

Yea it would be good to have a computer forum. The threads about laptops are cool and all, but not really on topic for a science forum.

Make this a reality Andrew, or I'm going to have to do that one thing involving my bare knuckles. I didn't actually say it so you have no reason to ban. I agree with the OP and subsequent posts though, this should happen. My time would be diverted from my general dickery by it. That should make it appealing as fuck.
Honestly though, you have two very knowledgeable mods on deck already and plenty of members with interest in computers. I could see the stickies in that forum being a useful way to resolve a lot of issues coming through this forum without having to repeat an answer a million times as well. At least give it a trial run, I think the staff and the community at large would find it appealing and fruitful.

True,
I wrote that post in the optic of having a real science and technology forum and not just a "theorical" S&T forum filled with computer tech support
If it was just me, the science could even be separated from the technology but hey, its not like people make alot of pure sciencey posts so it would be better to keep both subjects grouped.

Computer forum, for the win!
Hell, science and technology is one thing. To me that is all about smashing atoms and robots, hell even automotice related. Even the term technology, I don't think of ipads, cellphones, Cpu's and Video Cards.
Quote:
We live in an age of amazing scientific discoveries and technological achievements. Come here to discuss computers, electronics and the efforts of humans to understand and manipulate the world around them.
If you read that description it is talking about two very different thing.
"scientific discoveries and technological achievements" This sounds nice and sciency.
"Come here to discuss computers, electronics" Wait, so this is about gadgets...?
"and the efforts of humans to understand and manipulate the world around them" What the really fuck is that? Some kind of matrix shit.
It should be separate, like ZDTV and Discovery.
Science could be, physics, astronomy, ecology/environmental, chemistry, geology, biology, etc... Computers could be gadgets, computers, home entertainments, and audiophile related tech.
