drying sub experiment
    #18793809 - 09/03/13 10:38 AM (10 years, 4 months ago)

It seems I've read on these forums someone intentionally letting, or suggesting letting, substrates dry out for a period, and then re-hydrating for a second flush. I'm curious about monotubs in particular

Does anyone have any info on this subject? I've tried to UTSF, but I can't find anything.

I've read in the process of fruiting the substrate is drying out. That's why dunking occurs between flushes, at least with cakes. I'm not sure about monotubs though.

Yes. Some moisture is lost through evaporation and FAE and some is lost through fruiting.

But, what I'm referring to is after the first flush intentionally letting the sub dry out for an extended time.

Usually, we go ahead and rehydrate or do whatever to get that next flush as soon as possible.

It seems like I read somewhere a TC letting the substrate dry out a bit longer, postponing the next flush, and then re-hydrating.
