OMG, I think I just had a super kickass idea. PLEASE tell me this will work.
    #18790998 - 09/02/13 05:38 PM (10 years, 4 months ago)

Ok. Ive read about grain 2 grain transfers all the time. Well known blah blah blah. What about mono tub transfers.

Ok. I use hpoo/coco coir for my mono tub. My monotubs are about 66quart monotubs. Ok. Well after I let my monotub colonize for about 10 days before fruiting conditions, Cant I just pasteurize enough substrate for 5 monotubs and use my colonized monotub to spawn into the other monotubs. It will be like monotub 2 monotub. But Ive never seen this done. Can it be done?

Paul Stamets said in The Mushroom Cultivator that it was an outdated, almost worthless method.  That was 30 years ago.  It's not worth it, and almost everyone who has had this "super kickass idea" and ended up trying it ended up wasting a perfectly good monotub.

G2g work is normally never done in open air. Spawning mono's is. If you initially spawn the first mono in front of a massive hood with regular grain jars, close and let colonize, than I'm sure it would work.

Another thing to consider is that a colonized brick of hpoo/straw or coir/verm is not exactly as easy to bread apart and distribute as grain spawn either:shrug:

In the end you should probably stick with the grain jars.

bc, it would be like adding more pasteurized substrate right?

Yeah, you're basically taking a 1:3 ratio and making it 1:6 or more.

Yes, b plus covers it well.  Plus coir/verm doesn't offer much nutrition, so you would be spreading your mycelium extremely thin.

Im using hpoo/coco coir...very nutritious.

Your fruiting capacity is directly related to the amount of grain you have. Maybe it would be faster way to colonize the tubs, if you add more colonized grain to each tub during the mono to mono.

Lets not forget about the fact the substrate is no longer in a colonization state.  I am pretty sure this wouldnt work.

It is called super spawning, and is not recommended.

Don't spread disinformation.  Coir is the equal of horse manure for nutrition, and verm is also a nutritious substrate for fungi.

To the OP, you can't do bulk to bulk transfers because they're not colonized in sterile conditions.  The old substrate with contaminate spores would contaminate the freshly pasteurized mix.  This has all been experimented with and covered in detail.  Results should be fairly easy to find with the search feature.
