Increase in contams with micropore?

Has anyone noticed this on their grain jars? I'm not blaming contam problems on the micropore but I'm wondering if switching to easy felt until I get my hands on some SFD's would be a better choice. I lost about 25-30% of my last jars and I just feel like micropore is a poor filter choice

I'm sure you used the tape that was not exposed (as in pulling off the first 6-8" of it)
are you using 3m brand? can't say that it was ever a noticeable problem...

Micropore tape is not a sufficient contam barrier. I'd bite the bullet and order some SFD's. You'll save time and money in the long run.

I'm not sure if I'm interpreting this properly but if you're insinuating that the tape on the outside of the roll would cause contamination, that is not true because everything gets killed in the PC anyway. If that was the case then SFD's/jars etc wouldn't be reusable. Grains are exposed to plenty of contaminants before being PC'd. Anyway I have tried 3m nexcare curad etc and have had a lot of contams with them all

I haven't used it on grain jars myself but I know people have. You could try a double layer but I think there are better choices to use anyway. Chances are you some polyfill sitting around right now somewhere, or even cotton I would choose over micropore tape.

I picked up some Friendly Felt today and I'm gonna switch to that for now. Then I'll get some SFD's one of the next times around.

honestly, i used micropore tape for my first few tubs (in my old house) and it worked fine btu when i moved to where I am now micrpore tape has led to super contamination. I am attributing to the tape and/or a dirty syringe because im confident in my sterility since ive worked in a lab for quite a while. but i hada thread recently that a lot of people recommended EZ felt is better than the tape and is actually cheaper

I've seen a couple threads on the easy felt but none that compared it with micropore. Let me know if you come across that one again
