Low humidity while fruiting
    #18790751 - 09/02/13 04:42 PM (10 years, 4 months ago)

First timer. Just dunked and rolled and humidity is at 60-70 percent. Lower than before. I'm about to go to the store after dinner and buy a humidifier and put it in the closet with my fc good or bad idea?

as long as it is a cool mist, it is the best way I know to keep humidity high, at least reliably.  What does your FC look like?  I like to keep the humidifier half way in the chamber, meaning the intake is on the outside so that it is bringing fresh air in when it comes on (another opening must be made somewhere so that stale air can be exhausted)

also, repeat cycle timer on the humidifier

I took duct work for ac unit and over drain pipe and cut a whole in a plastic tote And am running a small fan as an exhaust. The light is direct with a normal fishtank light.

How should I get the humidifier in there?

You're heading in the wrong direction. No need for fans and humidifiers. Take that thing appart and start over. Buy some perilite and use that tote to make a SGFC.

Yeah, perlite for a tub that small, sorry, I thought you were referring to a greenhouse type.

Here's my cakes after dunked at rolled

They are on perlite ad the fan has been off for almost 24 hours. I just checked I only have 60 percent humidity. I have misted 3 times today. if not a humidifier what should I do?

You need more surface area for the perlite to wick up water.  I would put a layer on the entire bottom, it should increase humidity and allow you to provide more air exchanges.

Ok I was afraid of contam so I wanted to keep everything in separate trays. And I moved my hygrometer to a more relivent place. It's balanced over the edge of the clear Pyrex but not touching any perlite. I'm reading 85rh and about 78 temp.. U guys think I can get by this learn from mistakes and build a new chamber before fruiting my next ones? Or switch it around now I just hate touching them

Fruiting is not a sterile process.

Build the new chamber ASAP.

The only way to success is through trial and error. These teks have been around for a long time and the best way to get decent results is to follow notahackers advise. Get a drill, and a bag of perlite and through all that other crap away. You really don't need expensive tools like Cool mist and running fans and humidifiers. Cover the tote in holes every two inches. Don't forget the bottom, then put 4-5 thick coating of wet perlite. Put cakes back in and follow the process 12/12 light.

Thanks for the advice guys ill give it a try when I get off work. So far I've just used stuff laying around the house so I'm not over my head in anything. Any opinions on if I should buy a pressure cooker for my next batch?

after the cakes are fully colonized and birthed, contams aren't as much of an issue. the mycelium network is strong and healthy at this point. be sure to fan vigorously to clean out the stale air and you should be ok. perilite needs surface area, so do as suggested and cover the bottom.

Nonsense.

Misted cakes and perlite in a sealed tub will deliver 100% humidity all the time, which is bad.

What you have is a piece of shit chinese 'hygrometer' designed for no purpose other than to separate you from your money. Those have never worked and never will.  A quick search will reveal me ranting for ten years about new growers screwing up their projects by paying attention to those chinese digitals.

As already said, dump all that crap out and build a shotgun terrarium.

Did you roll your cakes in vermiculite and then perlite??? That's sort of what it looks like? :uhoh:

It's actually just a old all in regular gauges. I went to mid west grow kits and just bought a cheap set up to get me going. But the lid has one hole cut out just smaller than the light and one hole about 5 inches around where I put the small fan. Should I block the fan hold off when I make the sgfc?

And no 2 of them weren't fully colonized. They had slowed down to no grow at all. I didn't go thru one of trusted suppliers on here tho that might of been the problem. The syringe was week. My golden teachers took 3 to 4 weeks to start forming mycelium. But at least nothing was contaminated. I got 70 dollars in everything
