AFOAF Just Ordered Supplies, Casing Question
    #1879075 - 09/03/03 10:32 PM (14 years, 9 months ago)

He ordered from www.mycosupply.com and he Ordered the Organic Millet, Some Hydrated Lime, and Oyster Shell...oh and 90mm Filter discs. He plans on doing Karo TEK, then injecting the mycellum directly into some the Millet that he ordered, then casing with 50/50+. Now his question is, if he just put the casing directly into a tupperware container does the wetness from the casing provide the humidity needed?. He plans on making spawning 4 quart jars of millet, so that's what...2 quarters of total spawn? Now, assuming he uses a tupperware container what size of a container should he use for a 2 quart casing? Or should he make TWO 1 quart casings? He Thanks you all for the help

yes, they provide the bulk of their own needed humidity, but as the casing goes through flushes you may need help in the form of perlite or machinery. But it all depends on the conditions, equipment and teks utilized, my last LY casing didn't need to have any type of external humidity, I incubated and fruited it directly into a rubbermaid roughneck container covered with a Saran quick Wrap puntured all over with an empty syringe.

Make two casings, this way if contams strike, you won't loose everything. go with a two or three gallon Rubbermaid Roughneck container (Wal-Mart, for like 2 bucks) they come with fitted lids.
