What a difference a good nights sleep can make.
These guys grow so much each night. It's like I tuck em in to bed, then hardly recognize them in the morning!

I think theyre looking great, but this is my first time. Any constructive criticism is appreciated.

Nah man, they are looking good. I'm new to mycology as well, and it's pretty awesome. Good to see research and time spent pay off

Dude!
Get home from work and man, these guys got a lot more done in 8 hours than I did today
They are just blowing up now, I love it!
Like, I did a cartwheel in the house. I cant remember the last time I did a for realzy cartwheel!
Here's the same guy, from the same angle, 8 hours later.

And the SGFC

However, on a not-so-happy note;
The rest of my jars are looking jenkie.
Im sure its my fault. I was very good about wearing alcohol rubbed rubber gloves and my mask whenever I entered my grow room. In the beginning anyway. Once I had a couple cakes in my SGFC, and I had to pop in for misting, fanning, and just staring in awe, I let the "clean room" pretty much lapse into a free-for-all, and my remaing colonizing jars, might have suffered for it.
Next go-round I believe I will do my sterile work, and let jars colonize in one room, then fruit in another.
Anyway, the last 2 jars that I birthed, had what looked like a lugi in the jar? It didn't look fuzzy and mic-like, but looked kinda like wet polyfill inside the jar in a couple spots. No funky colors, but definitely a funky smell. Those cakes are in a clay pot, outside in humid-as-shit Carolina, covered with verm and being watered with some water/h2o2 just to see if anything happens.
So those 2 + the 5 in my FC make 7. Of the other 5, two are about 100% colonized, but are showing the same "wet poly" in the jars in a spot or two, and the other 3 are just moving slow. They probably would have been good and done by now but these 3 were the jars that only had 1, 2 or 3 innoc points take off.
Either way, as a 1st real go around, Im happy as hell with the 5 cakes Ive got fruiting, if the outdoor guys fruit, cool, if not, lesson learned.
With the high fail rate here at the end, Ill stick with PF TEK another time or two and focus on steril procedures, and maintaining thos standards throughout the grow. And also being patient and not handling the jars daily while they colonize, just to tell them I love them. They already know.

Congrats! I wish my first grow turned out like that, but I made the mistake of ordering pre prepared jars. Now I have 12 made from scratch jars ready to be knocked up!

Hey dude, walking into your room while jars are colonizing will not make them contaminate. They were probably bad from the get go.

I agree. If it is in the jar, it has been in the jar from the get go. I ended up with 2-24 that has some bacteria in them they have fully colonized, but I am gonna fruit them in the jar science they have already started before I was ready to birth.

@ Mush4Brains. Yeah if only I was walking around in the room. I meant to imply that I was picking up the jars daily, sometimes twice a day. I was good at leaving them be while the whole room was out of sight, out of mind. However once I was in there daily to mist and fan, I also couldnt resist picking up and inspecting the jars. I tried to be gentle but I know the verm shifted several times, possibly bringing contams onto the cake. Also, totally possible that I let something in during inoculation.
The verm thing brings up another issue I seemed to have, which may have lead to the contams. As my cakes colonized, they shrunk a tiny bit, and when they did, it allowed the verm to start falling down the sides of the jars, some pieces of verm made it like more than halfway to the bottom of the jar, along the sides in the gap left by the shrinking cake. Any way to prevent that? Or just something you deal with with PF TEK?
The jars that puled through and are fruiting were all from 1 syringe, the others that are going slow and contaming are from another. But they came from the same folks, for the sake of bettering my practice Im not going to blame the syringe, and will assume I let the bad guys in those last jars somehow.
@tybojengles, thanks, and good luck to you!
@Sockadin, I was thinking about the possibility of trying to fruit these last 2 in the jar that look suspect as well, either that or pot em outside. For in-the-jar fruiting, you just take the top off and let er go? Or do you still mist and fan the small exposed surface?
Im home for lunch right now, the veil has torn on a few of the mushrooms now, Looks like Ill be pulling my first harvest after work! (too excited to stay all day, Im sure I wont make it past 3pm knowing I have these gorgeous fruits begging to be picked.)
@heratogwea, man I wish I had the freedom to just munch a couple freshies today, but other plans are forcing me to hold off till next weekend to dose. Maybe by then some of the outdoor guys will poke up, or a 2nd fluch from these will be ready and Ill be able to eat a few freshies. Id love to! Every cube Ive ever eaten was dried and purchased, this is the first time Ive grown them and have an opportunity to eat em fresh.

Oh man! The freshies make a big difference! They tasted delicious, and I only ate 2 and it was a good time. Good luck on the timing for those. You can put them in a jar and store the freshies in the fridge for a few days if you have to.

yeah dude theyre pretty light, and I shaved em fairly clean with a razor (harvested mushies, ate aborts & tiny guys ) and have em dunking now (in for an hour as of this post) and was just wondering when I should get em back in the SGFC.
I already had the SGFC in the shower, re-wetting the perlite, now it's ready to go again. Im thinking maybe another 4 hours or so on the dunk, its either that, or leave em in while I sleep, then they'd end up with a 14 hour dunk so. . .

Mine were pretty reluctant to recover from the twelve hour. Once they did they exploded with pins again. Really it was hard to tell the difference in weight from the ones that went four from the ones that went twelve.

Thanks! and thanks to everyone and everything here in the cultivation forums. I havn't eaten a cube in 15 years! Just munching the borts n pins that were too small to fit on the dehydrator tray has the missus and I all giggly and stoked.
So happy this grow is turning out this good, and it's all thanks to you all!

That was a very fun grow log to watch. Were we at on second flush? I am finishing my first and need to dunk them.

Thanks! It was fun to grow!
Ill update with some 2nd flush pics after work today. There are a handful of new pins pokin out. Nothing amazing, but more fruit!
1st flush off the 5 cakes weighed in at just under 17g dry. Not a bad 1st go I think.
The ones outsifde in the pots (with verm, soil and about a cup of some BRF that was still lying around from when I made these jars) arent showing anything yet. Dont really expect em too, and if they do it'll probably be slow since its cooling off during the nights, down to the mid 50's, but pretty humid and high 70's, low 80's during the day. Theyre in mostly shade.
The other jars all kinda have that funky "wet polyfill" looking stuff inside. IDK what it is, but probably not that good.
I made a hasty SGFC (like 5 minutes tops, ugly as heck) but think I might pop the funky cakes into it, in the garage or something and see if they fruit. I dunno.
Either way, getting close to an .oz (counting the 2nd flush before it hatches) will keep the two of us stoked for a couple/few months Im sure.
I have 1 more syringe in the fridge though. Will probably do another round of BRF cakes.
On a side note, I was pretty buzzd when I harvested from eating the little bits and pieces that came off the cakes, but would have fallen through the dehydrator trays. I have a non-adjustable dehydrator from Walmart (the adjustable one would have taken 3 days to ship to the store) and thought I remembered reading that it would take 24-36 hours to dry the cubes.
That must have been with a fan, because this thing got pretty hot (I was scared till I came here and searched, found a post from NAH420 saying heat didnt hurt potency, and someone else saying you want to dry them as fast as possible) and dried the small ones in like 60 minutes, the fat ones I had to split the stems on, and they only took 3.5 hours. Was a nice surprise, I thought it was going to be a full day and a half of drying heh.

OK here are the cakes, post harvest and dunk, and we start crossing fingers for a good 2nd flush.
We've got several new pins, and a couple that were around for the dunk. Looks like I could pull a few more this round

I flipped them all upside down this time except for one that had a couple top pins.
Figure, it cant hurt right?
