Had help identifying them in this thread
http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/18705939#18705939
The oldest conk (darkest) is now 8" across, up from about 6" the last time a pic was taken (8/13). The black spots are dried up bits when the ants chewed through the conk.
Original pic taken on 8/13. The smaller conks on the left are now the large mass you see in the previous pic above.

New conk growth right under the dogwood. About a week of growth 4"

The L in lucidum should not be capitalized, and I was recently told that Ganoderma lucidum sensu stricto does not occur in North America. Apparently there is a paper that says that. I do not know if we have any better names for our North American hardwood shiny Ganodermas.
Based on your thread it sounds like you have only lived there a year and these are growing off of a tree that was there before you moved to the area. Perhaps your landlord could tell you what kind of tree was there a few years ago. They are unlikely to be growing with your living dogwood.
Or maybe it does not matter that much what you call it since you can enjoy them just as well under any name.

Tea! Tea! Tea!!
-------------------- "Shrub, 30-90 cm. Leaves 2.5-) 4-9 cm, sessile or amplexicaul, broadly ovate to ovate-oblong, obtuse or rounded to subapiculate or subacute, when crushed not smelling of goats." "The initial quake was a 6.6 but fairly shallow. I felt it as a prolonged up and down vibration followed by a jolt forward and then to the left, like square dancing."
