im hittin 30 and i havnt really accomplished shit. i can drive a forklift like a bad ass and i understand the whole shipping aspect of a company like an infant understands the teet, but its kind of a go no where kinda thing. sure, i can stay with a company for 20+ years as a shipping guy, but 20/hr after 20 years just doesnt seem worth it.
ive been thinking about a career move lately, but nothing has really come to mind. im not that bright and i would have to use financial aid. about 20 minutes ago, while in the shower, missing the last of my oxy, i thought... A FUCKING PHARMACIST! problem is, i would be talking serious money and years of school. for now, thats out of the question.
why not a pharmacy assistant though... i live in a bigger city which prob has over 1000 pharmacies which means the job opportunity is there. my only concern is, would it be worth it?
there are options out there for me and i would hate to put all my time and effort into something i just wont be happy with.
with all that being said, have any of you ventured into this same trade or know some one that has?

What are your motivations, other than making more money? Do you just want to be around drugs? Cause that's a good way to get in legal trouble -> lose your job. There are lots of careers out there now that only require an associates degree + certification, and they pay good money. You have a lot of options.

To become a pharmacist is at least 4 years of school. You could be a pharm tech with less, but they don't make any more than you do now probably.

A pharmacist requires a doctorate. You might be able to do it in 6 years depending on the pharmacy school you get into and if you do well enough in the prerequisite courses, but you're probably looking at 7 to 8 years of school.
Pharmacists start off at a six figure salary, but you also have to keep in mind that the demand for pharmacists is dwindling. The future outlook isn't as prosperous as it once was, but you will still be able to find a job in less populated areas.
A pharmacy technician requires no schooling, and depending on the state your in, doesn't require certification either, but I would recommend getting certified. You have to study and then sign up for the PTCE at PTCB.com
A pharmacy technician isn't a lucrative career. You get paid maybe 12 dollars an hour and there is not much opportunity for advancement. It's not a good job.
If you're serious about being a pharmacist, which I doubt you are, becoming a pharm tech would be a step toward that goal. But, yea, you'd have to graduate pharmacy school and become a doctor. It's not an easy way out solution. It's a challenging field and very competitive.
I am in the process of taking the PTCE right now. You can pass it by simply reading a pharmacy technician book and studying the top 200 drugs on the PTCB websites, or at least that's what I'm told from people who have taken it, and it costs about 130 dollars to take.
The prerequisites for pharmacy school include anatomy, biochemistry, physics, calculus, communication classes and so forth and so on. A 3.5 average will be okay, but you'll want to do even better than that. You are trying to be a doctor here. On top of that, you will also have to study and do well on the PCAT exam before applying to pharmacy school. This shit is hard and is not going to be a walk in the park for you. If you're serious and want to commit that kind of time and work toward it, hell, you could do it.

I know a pharmacy technician, she just got a job there as a sales assistant and worked up, they should give you the training you need. Money is ok, never gonna have a private jet to, peace
