Too much air from fans?
    #18788762 - 09/02/13 09:07 AM (10 years, 5 months ago)

I searched around for a bit, but I didn't find exactly what I was looking for and I have to be off to work. I've just made my first monotub the night before last, and it's all ready colonizing, which is awesome. Anyway, I think I remember reading somewhere that there should be minimal air movement in the room during colonization. However, it's difficult to control the temperature in the room and it's always just about 80, which worries me. Anyway, I have two fans running in that room. Should I turn them off during colonization.? Isn't it true that fans don't reduce the temperature in a room anyway?

Fans circulate the air, they do not reduce temps.

For colonization you want minimal air movement, for fruiting the monotubs there should be a fan oscillating in the room.

80F should be fine. Just turn the fans off

But what makes me nervous is that I'm sure the temp is bound to go over 80 at some point (although not by much), seeing as how its always right on the verge. There's really not much I can do about it. Do you think it poses a significant threat?

Your substrate is going to be at least 3-5 degrees hotter while colonizing.

No worries though.

IME you're fine until you get above 82F in the room.
