But where do I start?? I don't know much about it, but I would like to learn. Please meditating community, teach me your ways!

I think everyone has their own preference or what works for them, but I began by meditating at the base of my spine or the coccyx, until I could feel that point, then I moved up a bit higher until I could feel that point and I kept going until I could be aware of any point on my spine on command and then moved focus toward my brain.
One good thing to practice is to turn off the internal dialogue inside your head, it is called mindfullness. Instead of following the thoughts to the next thought, you let the thought sink into oblivion and try to think about nothing. Then inevitably another thought arises, and that thought you dismiss into oblivion so on and so forth.
I think it is kinda strange how it is more difficult to think of nothing than it is to think, because thinking seems to be an action that requires energy, but it is seemingly so hard not to think, yet not impossible. It just takes practice.

I've tried kundalini meditation but it didn't really have good results for me. I'm currently doing mindfulness meditation 10mins twice a day and it has been pretty good. I haven't been doing it for that long but I've noticed I am better able to "steer" my mind in that I can control it a bit better, which is what's practiced during the meditation.

I've heard it's a steep learning curve and results aren't automatically significant but if you keep at it for a long time you won't regret it.

Hey lolwut, I bet if you get good at the mindfullness, the other part might be easier, because your not wasting all your focus on your thoughts.

Kundalini, or internal alchemy. (Exploring the energy body)
You have to move awareness from the brain to do it, and if awareness is stuck in your head and thoughts it makes it kinda hard. But some are naturally good at directing focus and can skip mindfullness. (at first)
But to get to the functional channels, I think you have to do some sort of mindfullness training.

Ah yea. Well I've put that on hold, maybe for a few years at least. Recovering from psychosis, the last thing I needed was more Kundalini energy flowing through me...it was on overdrive at the height of the break to the point where I also got effects that made me think it was Kundalini syndrome as well - I was kinda fried for a while there. But yeah I think it would be transferable and hopefully in the future I'll be able to have some interesting Kundalini experiences

You could try internal alchemy next time, or MCO, it is basically the same thing just described a bit differently. (imo)

I meditate half an hour a day. I've been mindfulness meditation regularly for nearly 2 years (although I had a 5 month gap in there!) and can say that is has had a profoundly positive impact on my daily life and has granted me so much control over my mind.
Mindfulness - Basically the idea is to become aware of your thoughts and then eventually stop them. I do this by focusing on my breath. I'm not "thinking" about my breath, I am just feeling it and experiencing it as I breathe in and out. Everytime I realise I have become distracted by a thought (and BOY will you get distracted, your mind tries to trick you, A LOT!) I return my focus to the breath without judging the thought.
Meditation takes a lot of practice and it can take a while to see big benefits, but stick with it. You will probably not be able to go more than a few seconds before you think something to begin with but as you practice more it will become easier.

So many different kinds. In Aikido, we do what we call Ki breathing, which is a style of meditation. Here's a little info. I usually just focus on my breath and try to be in the present and keep my thoughts from going astray. I don't meditate enough to notice much of a difference from day to day but it's a great way to keep relaxed and practice living in the present.

I like reciting mantras. Just pick one you like. My favourite is the Gayatri mantra.
This is my routine, it starts with voice excercises:
- Focus on your breathing for a couple of minutes. - Make a long lasting "ah" sound three times. - Focus on your breathing for a couple of minutes. - Make a long lasting "u" sound three times. - Focus on your breathing for a couple of minutes. - Make a long lasting "mmm" sound three times. - Focus on your breathing for a couple of minutes. - Make a long lasting "ohm" sound three times. - Focus on the tip of your tongue. - Chant the chosen mantra 27 times whilst retaining focus on the tip of the tongue. - Focus on your breathing for a couple of minutes. - Focus on your throat. - Chant the chosen mantra 27 times whilst retaining focus on the throat. - Focus on your breathing for a couple of minutes. - Focus on your heart. - Chant the chosen mantra 27 times whilst retaining focus on the heart. - Focus on your breathing for a couple of minutes. - Focus on your belly button. - Chant the chosen mantra 27 times whilst retaining focus on the belly button. - Focus on your breathing for as long as you like to stay still...
It clears my thoughts much more effectively than mindfullness meditations. But this is highly personal.

Close eyes, think of nothing, expect nothing
that's what I do, never learned meditation though
doing it in nature is even better (stress free environment)
sometimes I meditate with crystals, helps me focus on 1 point and relaxation
you can meditate when you walk too, just observe works pretty good when walking/sitting in nature (no need to even close eyes), I walk in nature everyday (helps relaxation)
lucid dreaming is kinda meditation for me too, usually feel great after it and usually takes 1-2 hours relaxation to get into one, or luck

I recently started meditating daily myself and I found Tibetan Buddhism to work quite well as a guide to help me get started. There's all sorts of focused breathing techniques and energy releases to use. What seems to be key is whatever mediatation you do decide works for you, stick with it and make it a daily habit.

O, and one of the best meditations is walking around the city with an open and friendly expression, meeting the eyes of strangers.
Make eye contact and if you break it, don't break it by looking down but by looking sideways (break it horizontaly not verticaly - breaking it verticaly is submissive and will make you feel miserable).
(EDIT: Don't make eye contact from more than 5 steps away, otherwise it is plain freaky because you will be staring people down)
It is great to see the city's anonimity crumble and make way for a sea of souls that have their own emotions, paths and challenges.
You'll find that people will greet you and smile at you, somtimes even start to talk with you.
It's awesome practice.
And another thing, if you make eye contact with someone attractive, take two steps after they pass and look back over your shoulder. If they do so as well, they like you and you should walk over straight away to introduce yourself and ask for a number. Works like a charm.

The most important part is just to start doing it. Once you start, you can adjust your technique. It doesn't have to be perfect in the beginning.
One poster here has described it as "just sitting." I really like that definition because it is simple, yet illustrates exactly what I try to do when I meditate. I don't think. I don't look. I don't do anything with my body (besides adjusting posture so that I may sit comfortably). I just sit. Sometimes I keep my eyes closed (if I'm easily stimulated) or sometimes I allow my eyes to remain slightly open so that light may enter my field of vision (if I become tired).
By just sitting, I become the observer instead of the actor. Your brain will start to form thoughts since it is used to always being occupied. You will start to worry about what you should be doing - keep a pen & paper nearby so that you can write those things down, and then get back to your meditation without anxiety. Watch your thoughts, but do not play with them. This, imo, opens up space for you to experience pure awareness and that is the point of most of my meditations - to be aware of my emotions, stress, and physical tension as it arises and react in such a way that corresponds with my beliefs & intentions.
The walking meditation mentioned in the previous post sounds cool, too. I think meditation could also be described as "just being aware" and that opens up the possibility for meditating in most any circumstance.
Hope this helped, Chastity
