This was my first year ever of having a garden, and having lots of time on my hands, I could devote time towards growing and learning about these incredible plants, here are 3, more where these came from
Danish Flag Poppy

Drama Queen Poppy

My Hawaiian baby woodrose plants grew exceptionally fast, i planted them somewhere around june, this is them in july

And this is them today ~45 days later, this one is about 7.5 feet tall

This one smaller but growing two vines

Beautiful Costa Rican tobacco (Nicotiana Tabacum)plant was a gift from a relative, planted at the right time, currently flowering, 6.5-7 feet tall, the white flowered ones on the right side are Nicotiana Sylvestris

Nicotiana Rustica planted in June (decided later to grow my own tobacco this year)

Virginia smoking tobacco also planted in mid june

Love them all. Especially those poppies! They are all looking great
Do you have a method for curing your tobacco? I found it rather difficult to get nice smoke.

The drama queen blooms are real nice, it was number 4 on my strain list so I didn't buy it last year. How tall are they and how many pods are there a plant?
My hwbw is tiny , and has bin that way for more than 3months. I kept it in a tiny container and always forgot to transplant it. Put it in a bigger pot last week and going to bring it inside in winter.

Thanks Guys
Hcrider - I am experimenting with sun curing and air curing in a shed, I'm going to try to be diligent enough to conduct some experiments and see which method works nicest for my tobacco. Also have some different strhttp://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/7399068ains so curious as to how they will come out.
Kyoto - I probably had 10-15 plants with around 50 pods total, it was a lot of work to harvest and didnt get much, .5-.75g experimented with some methods of smoking just raw, it was hard to get it to work properly. I tried poppy pod tea with 2-3 pods with great success but Opiates are a real pandora's box and it was hard for me to experiment with them, especially with the constant chatter in my head about addiction potential. I'm going to save them for the long winter days.
I'm wondering why my HBWR grew 7.5 feet tall in 3-4 months when it should be focusing on root growth for the first two years, what i read is that they usually grow extremely slowly at first. Maybe because i blow tobacco smoke on it! Happy Plants

I would kill for those Danish flag or Drama Queen genetics!
<SNIP>
You dont have trouble with cross polination Flowering both at once?

Pretty sure those are not Papaver Somniferum, most likely P. setigerum.

Woops didn't read the rules, thanks i'll give those a read through! I dont know if there is a problem with cross pollination, i guess we'll find out next year when i get some Drama Flag and Danish queen's
Unless you mean the tobacco, but im going to cut the sylvestris with the flowers soon, i have plenty of Rustica and tabacum seeds left from the package. I'm going to collect seeds from our farm where i have it planted with no sylvestris or rustica so they won't be mixed. If you let tabacum flower next to the others you will get a lower nicotine content with sylvestris or higher nicotine with rustica. It's all drying and curing now, smoked some and it tasted wonderful. The only thing i can suggest for a better smoke is the water content in the tobacco. If it dries too much, it is very unpleasant to smoke. Take a couple drops of water in a pouch or bag and add until it gets moist. Also i mix my tobacco with peppermint, spearmint, catnip, mullein, rose, sometimes a bit of chamomile. That all makes for an extra pleasant smoke. My friend also suggested slicing half an apple and putting it in the bag, gives the tobacco apple taste and hydrates it. Have yet to try

Do you grow them for anything except ornamental purposes?
You should grow somniferum if you grow poppies, imho. They are the most useful of all poppies. Not only do they contain desired alkaloids, their seed has the highest culinary value combined with high yields. They also look better than other poppies , their seed pods are really nice fall decorations.

Mum just grew them years ago - now they just come back every year as a weed without planting in their 100's - still a beautiful plant.
