WTF!... Worms in my jars! update with pics*

Got home from work and went to check my jars. Most are consolidating and have been for a couple days. But two of them have a tiny spot in the bottom that has yet to colonize. Very little progress over the last couple days. So I turn the jar upside down to get the myc off the side of the jar and a tiny fucking maggot looking thing comes crawling out of the spot... no discoloration and they smell fine. Anyone think I can salvage these? Its only two of my nine luckily.
Pretty pissed off at the moment.

You're telling me. Think I'm gonna crumble them both and spawn to bulk and hope for the best. Unless someone can give me a reason not to. Just sucks how healthy these jars have been.

I had the same thing happen to me the other day. I was really pissed so I trashed the jars... came from using old wbs.
Spawn it and see what happens. Do you see any metabolites or other signs of contamination?(besides the maggot)

No pc. Still don't see how these guys would have survived at 217 degrees for an hour and a half.

There is no way they did. These guys came in after the jar cooled. Either you introduced them, or they found a way past whatever physical barrier is on your jar.
***EDIT*** I missed what type of jar, but now that I read, it seems (I am assuming) that you are doing a PF tek. They probally crawled in past the verm layer.
Im sorry to state it like that, but it seems apparent that something went wrong. If they are maggots, they will mature, and lay more eggs. They will not go away unless you get rid of them. They bring contamination and eat mushrooms.

Thanks for the reply whippy. Do you think I should spawn them? I only saw 3 worms. 2 in one jar and one in the other. And yes they are pf cakes.

Toss them man. You spawn those and you'll have more maggots and probably fungal gnats. Go far far from your home and dump those outside somewhere where they might fruit.

On second thought I really don't want these in my fruiting chamber. Think ill just bury them and hope something springs up.

Compost pile.
I'd try fruiting them, just not in the same chamber as the good cakes. Pick out the maggots and eggs and fruit those bastards. Can't hurt to try right? Unless you only have one fruiting chamber.

Gonna try and bury them. Have a great spot where horses were stabled under an awning. Poo should be aged a good 2 years.

I had these son of a bitches take over an enormous yellow oyster straw log earlier this year. The thing was pinning like mad, and was putting out some healthy fruits. The back corner had an odd look one afternoon, and upon inspection it was crawling with maggots and flies. I re-located it outside and literally tossed it into my pile of logs. The bugs never left. They destroyed the whole thing. My thought with its relocation was that it could possibly colonize the logs that I squished it into. I actually just took a hike out to the pile after my previous post, and found what looks like mycelium growing just under the bark.
Funnier yet....the only reason I even had that log pile is because the week earlier a tree fell and crushed my Cadillac. Its just a log pile full of hate and woe. This summer has been a total fuck around for me.
Bottom line, you don't want them bastards in your home or grow area. Bury the cakes, or burn them. Either way get it as far away as you can. Spores from contamination can spread, but these bastards have wings and can smell mushrooms from miles away apparently.

Interesting. Glad I've read a case before actually running into these little guys.

No, the real shame is that I paid cash for the car a month earlier. I got the title in the mail 2 days earlier. My insurance co is still pissed because I keep a $100 deductible....Technically I made $1400 more than I paid for it.
"Why pay for such a low deductible?" they asked. I explained real simple that my car gets me to work, which gets me paid. If I don't have a car, I don't make money. I like to know that if there is an issue, it will get sorted out quick and cheap.

I would bury them outside man. I wouldn't risk two tiny jars contaminating everything

That's the plan. Now I'm supper paranoid about my other four that are finishing up on the bottom.
