Yeah but progressive contemporary smooth jazz fusion still sucks man, it's boring and that's how this thread started out before you finally mentioned anything good like John Fahey or Muddy Waters.

It's good you respect John Fahey but dismissing the other stuff he mentions suggests a lack of understanding, IMO.

fuck if i started pulling out the guitarists from crazy avant prog and eastern Europe and Russian folk prog guitarists, i could on into the day until my eyes melted. i must retire.
this thread proves how many awesome guitarists just plain are relevant and aspiring, like Jimi Hendrix was. you know... before he died.
best solo on record: either the second last solo on All Along The Watchtower or the solo on Hey Joe.

I don't know if I'm qualified to speak on this matter , but I think Les Claypool is one of the best bass guitarists I've ever heard. He's got such a distinct style.
