I am surprised it was not full of bugs.

Or was it?

Also, I have never seen one with a white reticulation over a red stipe.

Very cool

:jawdrop:

The pores on that big one look a big dodgy, did you cut 'em out?

I would have had to have done bolete burgers.  Marinate them up with some cheese 'n garlic italian or whatever, maybe with some blue cheese or something exotic.

Raaaaaarrrrr!

As long as we're talking B. edulis, found these guys a couple weeks ago:

Very nice. They seem to be all over the city of Portland this year.

I have found them here before in yards and such but this year is crazy.

My buddy keeps finding them everyday.

I am currently trying to get him to start posting here.

I rarely find them at sea level, all of these were found at least 1500 feet up in the Cascades. Didn't find anything this weekend though, the forests are full of fair-weather hunters atm.

Gotta find those untouched spots.

I like to go to very steep places or places with tall sallals. People don't hunt in
those areas. Not for boletes though.
I have never found that quintessential coastal bolete.

Google maps helps a lot.

I found that in what I would consider mostly cottonwood along a columbia slough. A dash of western redcedar, maybe some birch but a very unlikely spot for B. edulis from what I have read.

Crazy. My buddy has been finding them up in St. John's.

Sorta close to the slough.

I need to learn of good places to hunt King Boletes around Seattle.  I've seen a billion boletes but not the big Kings.

One of my mex buds claim they like the swampy stuff, but I think that's nonsense.

Discussion?

i went to one of my shaggy parasol spots today and found princes growing the the shaggies so i left the shaggies for someone else and took the princes.  this spot isn't far from the only B aereus spot i know and there were a dozen nice buttons there, but most were too small, so i took the two largest ones and headed for a nearby porcini patch. and scored enough for a nice dinner.
kings, queens and princes
