Both are quite tasty either way.
I found a few today myself.

The more yellow and brown ones are the same species I believe. Same place as the others, same color gills, and the same annulus. I wasn't one hundred percent sure they were the same though so I ended up tossing those. I looked it up on here afterwards and found out they can be that yellow and brown color sometimes.

it was a weird area. spruce and maple 50-50, disturbed ground. they didn't bleed red and didn't have the concentric color on the cap (but they were young still). i wondered the same thing and decided L. deliciosus. but i'm way n00b. if you can shed some light i'd love to soak it up!

Killer day, found tons of very nice sized lactarius rubidus and craterellus tubaeformis, plus the usual suspects, white and yellow chants, hydnum repandum, lobster, gomphus clavatus, lactarius rubrilactus, and a whole bunch of agaricus cupreobrunneus.

Either way they are edible and very tasty. I like them best cooked to a light crisp in oil. Golden-ish with crispy edges. I just ate all of mine actually.
I have tried par-boiling them as well as sauteed at different amounts of time and temp.
If they are under cooked the flavor is not there. Crispy lactarius gills are the bees knees.
I guess they are best as mushroom french fries.
Chants not so much.
Do the fresh mushrooms smell at all like tangerine to you?
That is what they smell like to me.

And RZP, those are the biggest Lactariius rubidus that I have ever seen!

Went on a hike for Chanterelles today. My 2 friends and I got about 10 pounds total. Many Chants were too water-logged to take or too far-gone. Here's some photos of other neat fungi I found
All just outside Seattle (Issaquah).
This critter was running in circles on this tiny mushroom!

Little red bolete. Probably 1.5" across

Purple bolete that looked like the velvet ones that grow east of the Rockies. It looked SOOO much more "velvety" in person.

Another angle...

Laccaria amethystica

Some jelly shit

Coral shit

Tree-dick

Blue-bruising on bolete only moments after cutting & handling.

Chicken

My buddy was like "hey... you see this deer?" I turn around and the fucking deer is about 20 feet in front of him, not giving a shit. We talked and slowly moved toward it and it was cool with it.

Thanks for looking all!

Thanks guys! Mushrooms are just sooo much fun to find and photograph. I could have found ZERO Chanterelles and would have still went home a happy-camper.

Them's kings, baby. Prince are Agaricus augustus. You appear to have Boletus edulis.
Though now that I think about it, seems that I have heard folks talk about king, queen and prince boletes. But these are not the kind of people that can spout any proper names, so what can you do?

It's crazy that at different stages of development they look like they are from a different genus. Sometimes, Panealous, sometimes Psilocybe, sometimes Psathyrella. Confusing!

Totally. I have suspected that there are a few species that I have called Parasola conopilus.
I love to see them fruiting though. They were fruiting right next to the first cyans I ever found. I have had an affinity for them ever since. And they grow in such massive troops!
If you come up to Portland Ill show you the Portland Parks tree farm/garden.
Millions of them. Millions.
