And ganzig, how long have you been selling your mushrooms? Sounds like you do pretty well with them. That would be something amazing to get into! Happy hunting!

Hey art lets stick to the topic of fungi directly dude. Love your enthusiasm.
If you would like to know more about me selling mushrooms me.

you sketch and paracelcus can get a bit carried away sometimes going off topic.
I just wanna keep that to a minimum in here. Yeah I know I was playing along for a minute but now it must end.
Love you guys.

Geastrum sp. from this mornings coffee and doob stroll.

And Blewits I am pretty sure? Its a fat patch in this grass cliping pile. I could probably transplant it. Look at all the babies! My timing this year has been bang on for everything!!

And another grass loving Agaricus sp.. Very slender with persistent annulus and yellow cap.

yes! they are!! I had them once before and they were mealy and weird. I sliced them up with butter n garlic per the usual taste test, and thought they were yucky. Maybe I prepared them wrong.

Very cool... is it photophores in the fruit that make them glow? How does that work exactly? Does light have to "charge" the mushroom in order for it to glow? Kind of like a solar panel or is it completely different?

The blewits I used to find on the east coast were tasty, I sauteed them with butter, mirin, cardamon and nutmeg. They had a nice texture, firm but not crunchy or rubbery.

Mushrooms emit light in much the same way as fireflies do. The enzyme luciferase catalyzes a reaction between a medium-sized molecule (called "luciferin" in both cases, though I don't think it's quite the same molecule) and oxygen, and the resulting molecule is unstable. I could not find a reaction mechanism online for mushroom luciferin, but in fireflies this unstable molecule is a peroxide ring that rapidly decays to release CO_2, leaving a ketone in a high-energy excited state. The ketone then releases a photon to return to a low-energy state. Light absorption is not required at any point.

I can see that, these dont really have a very nice smell to them. I am not sure I want to bother.

hey Oregon, nice finds first of all! and second, do you eat oysters? I brought some home one day, despite the bugs that scare people off, I cooked em up in just some butter to see how they were, they came out very tough! the cap was almost leathery and it had a very funny taste that tingled my tongue... was it miss identified maybe? or did I do something wrong?
