Life is funny. I was too excited to go hunting for Chanterelles that I couldn't sleep. So I was too tired to get up, come morning. I went out to a local park instead just to look for whatever and found a bunch of chicken of the woods.

Those are massive! And that is a pretty great start.
Joust and I should host a foray here soon. And you will have to come with us.

Hypomyces lactifluorum 9/4/13

The tops are all funky, I hope they are still good.

I noticed a little sprout growing out of the cap.

I kinda thought these were cool looking, I hope you don't mind me posting them, in no way does my camera do them justice.
Pholiota flammans

I didn't find any Chanterelles today but I stayed under 1,500ft. The forecast calls for rain so I will probably go out again (higher this time) in a few more days. Things still seem pretty dry and dusty.

No. East, before you get over the pass, in the foothills, probably about 1300ft.

the first chantrelles came in at san francisco farmers market and they said it was from the Sierra Nevada foothills. They were tiny. We haven't had much rain to speak of except up by the Oregon border. the big Rim Fire is still going up near Yosemite. weird stuff to see any chanties come out of there, just because the temps drop probably
either way, it's a few weeks earlier than normal even for tiny baby chantrelles

I want to venture west into the coastal range soon. It's awesome because I think this season is going to be pretty wild!
The cascades need a bit of cooling and more rain before it gets going good IMO.

Ganzig & Joust: I'd totally love a foray if my schedule will allow! I've got a car and not afraid to drive!
I was in Iowa for the last year and there wasn't much in the realm of mushrooms so I wasn't on here as much. I would still check in to read but didn't post. And naturally... I'm here more when the shrooms are poppin!

Piggy and peyote zen, I'm curious what mountain range you two were in? Nice hauls regardless but if that's out of the cascades in Oregon I'd be blown away!

here's a photo from the San Francisco farmers market, Embarcadero and on the left are chantrelles. Those are from the Sierra foothills
https://twitter.com/thelastminute/status/375669670277160960/photo/1
pretty bizarre this early with so little rain and we haven't even gotten indian summer yet
also matsiman message board also reports the coast is booming with chanties and prices have dropped to 1.50 pound in Coos Bay
http://matsiman.com/buyerpickermessagesU_OLD.htm
I remember getting 3 bucks a pound in 1988

I picked my first chantrelles of the year 2 months ago when there had been weeks of no rain. Ive been picking a ton ever sense. There is so many out right on the coast of Oregon it is insane. If any of you get a chance to hunt right on the coast of Oregon there is no way you wont find mass amounts of chants this year.
-------------------- Favorite quote: I want to know if they are active and magic or not. And if they are not active, can i pick them before they are active and then they will become active or do they have to grow till they activate?

My selling prices are dropping by the minute it seems. So many chants!!
I love the money but I love that this season is making up For last year already.
Found another 15 lbs of white chants today.
A few pounds of golden chants too.
