They were spotted while on the drive.
A fairy ring of big agarics is a normal sighting and I rarely stop, but these looked like buff brown tall ones. I had to stop.
I think a thick duff layer is important, this Doug fir tree had imported fir bark mulch under it. Some stems were 3 inches into the duff layer. They fruited along the drip edge of the fir, making it appear as a fairy ring. I left many behind.
