Growth on pine needles.....VERY Small fruits.
    #18785314 - 09/01/13 01:28 PM (10 years, 4 months ago)

A few months ago I tossed a small abort into a ziplock with about a quart of hydrated bulk sub (Coir/verm).  After a few weeks I remembered what I had done, and in sorting through I found that the abort was covered in miniature mushrooms.  I never did a thing with it other than throw it out.  Yes it was odd, but this hobby has its qwirks.

Over the last few months I have had a number of OD beds and boxes and essentially was testing what worked to deter slugs.  I observed over a few nights that pine needle casings keep slugs out.  They refused to enter the box, and only cruised around the top eating anything they could reach.

I remember reading that pine was naturally resistant due to sap....which suprised the hell out of me when I saw my casing starting to become colonized...and not in a way that made any sense.  Here is a photo of what I think is the exact same situation I saw above:

Here is the box a few weeks ago:

Here was a needle I pulled today.  And yes they all look like this.....

I wish I had a microscope or something to be able to view and ID, but from zooming in, they sure look like cubes....

I thought it was novel, and possibly the cutest mushrooms ever.
