I couldnt sleep a wink last night so I started studying up on google earth. Based on something I read about mushrooms being found on the North and or Northeast side of a slightly sloped hill with rich soil and dead trees. Old forests. I started clicking back the years on google earth and found a spot on the Northeast end of a hill that had no four wheeler trails or roads for at least a mile. A torn down barn which I i didn't check yet and what looks to be the remnants of an ancient creek bed! I pulled into the forest and went as far as I could get without pulling out the wench, It turns out that right beside where I parked I almost ran over a cool looking mushroom! from there on it was bing! bam! boom! I loved it and am thinking of going back after I make this incredibly long post! lol. The only thing I noticed has been through there is deer. Although I couldn't help but notice the cardinals dropping shit from the trees! Tons of poison Ivy. Think I saw poison sumac! Oh well I got some real decent shots! I read the article on how to take better photos while mushie hunting great read. I hope you guys enjoy naming these off for me. I have my guesses but theres a couple I think that are active and those of you who know me know Ive yet to find one but always keep hoping lol. I used some of the methods a TI here advised me. 1. carried butchers paper to wrap each mushroom species individually. 2. used stick to bat spider webs away before walking into them and dancing like an idiot lol.
habitat: NE slightly sloped old forest in NE Oh. Lots of fallen trees many with moss on them. Jaggers, poison Ivy, sumac maybe. there's a swamp like high grassy area to the east of where I was at. An old recently tore down (2004) barn to the NE.

Cap, stem, smell, : please excuse my noobieizm. I found a lot of shrooms Im going to number them and if you want you can help me ID them. I dont want to be a bother so if it bothers you can just check the photos out I had fun hope you enjoy the various types of mushrooms. bluing, waiting and taking picks i wouldnt know it if I seen it prolly. spore color: spore prints in progress
 1. Silver top (first mushroom I found right next to the bike.

I also had a couple dark browns, and these two black spore prints. 1. these may look brown on cam. but in person they look totally black!
 2. I think this is number 25.

I do have a question someone might be able to help me with. Lets say I do find a good mushroom that spore prints black. usualyy these mushrooms I have spore print black turn to mush. ink caps or whatever. whas should I do to spore print and keep preservation of a specimen in the future?

Can you try to keep the spore prints with the mushrooms they are associated with? With the amount of pictures here it gets confusing having all the spore prints in the same sections..
Heres my best shot at some of them..
#2 - maybe Pluteus #7 - Lycoperdon, maybe Lycoperdon perlatum
J - looks like a bunch of dieing Armillaria N - maybe Pluteus q - Hygrocybe conica or very similar species Z- Strobilomyces
Sorry i cant help with more, I do not recognize most of them.
-------------------- Favorite quote: I want to know if they are active and magic or not. And if they are not active, can i pick them before they are active and then they will become active or do they have to grow till they activate?

I think #21 and letter: I. looks like Panaeolus cinctulus except the gills go down the stem and are more tan than black colored

I thought so too (Armillaria mellea) there were a lot of them in different stages of growth. Ive heard mixed reports on their edibility. they cause root rot on host trees. Im sure u know that just sayin. interesting.
q - Hygrocybe conica or very similar species.
(witch's hat) I was almost certain thats what this and letter X are. they are the only red shrooms I find here. I like them. they always have cool orange to neon yellow stems. Almost always half eatin by predators as well
Z- Strobilomyces (Strobilomyces confusus) I thought it was dead. this is the second one I found this season so figured Id see if it was mutated/dying or just the way it is

Hey, practice makes perfect! Keep it up. It only gets better, trust me. It seems like its almost to much to ever learn anywhere near even the majority of the fungi in this world... its awesome! Lol
