Electric Zoo's Cancelled Due To Apparent MDMA-Related Deaths
    #18784517 - 09/01/13 09:17 AM (10 years, 4 months ago)

Be careful out there

Electric Zoo's Last Day Cancelled Due To Apparent MDMA-Related Deaths

The final day of the Electric Zoo music festival has been cancelled after two deaths and other illnesses—apparently from MDMA (molly). The Mayor's office issued a statement, "The City recommended cancellation and the event promoters have agreed."

The statement explained, "During the first two days of the Electric Zoo music festival, two concert-goers have died and at least four others became critically ill and have been placed in intensive care at area hospitals. Definitive causes of death have not yet been determined, however, both appear to have involved the drug MDMA (ecstasy, or molly). The Electric Zoo organizers have worked with City officials to reduce health risks at this event, but in view of these occurrences, the safest course is to cancel the remaining day of the event."

I'd put my money on dehydration or some obscure RC being sold as molly. Another reason why we need to focus on drug education rather than solely drug use prevention.

Some people don't know how to properly care for themselves when they take these substances, especially in that type of environment.

I think these festivals should take more steps toward providing attendees with access to free water to help avoid severe dehydration.

These festivals have become Amateur Hour in the last few years.
Not surprised by this. Uneducated drug use combined with alcohol and high heat and only 2 deaths aint bad to me.

Yup id say Methylone + no water = Death

Ive been to a few myself and i can agree that they seriously lack water for people.

You can be dieing and there like "6$ bro or no water" its retarded.

Plus a lot of the free water stations go dry in a matter of hours and they never refill them.

I wouldnt be surprised if this is from the PMA that seems to have made its way into the US and resulted in 1 death already in Jersey.

Definitely be careful everyone.

Man I posted that on some news website comments and got blasted for it. "what makes you think it wasn't MDMA?? MDMA can definitely kill you."

1. In my few years in the drug scene I am fairly well connected but have never even seen real MDMA
2. MDMA is unlikely to kill one person. Less likely to kill 2 and hospitalize more at the same event
3. PMA is making its rounds again which is a known killer when taken as a substitute
4. No tox screen to even suggest it was MDMA. Just another media assumption

you people always make excuses defending MDMA blaming it on something else. MDMA is lethal stuff. molly is bullshit. what molly? beans? there can be anything in that powder. just like in a bean. but real beans always have at least 100 milligrams of real MDMA in them.... they can vary in potency. Especially in circumstances where its going around at a concert or something.... nobodys your personal dealer that will warn you about what they have and will tell you hey man be real careful with these. dumb kids try stuff at shows for the first time and pop 3 rolls and die. happens all the time.

what molly? beans? when did it stop being beans? its always been beans. your asking for the wrong stuff.

when it comes to hard street drugs... anything can be anything. im not saying it was or wasnt methylone or something related.... but theres just as much of a chance it could have been TMFPP or BZP or ANYTHING. its all hit or miss... and to be completely honest... most of you dont even know the difference... and most users really dont care as long as it fucks them up. yes... beans can be completely bunk. its all hit or miss. just like acid can be bunk bright colors and then arsenic strychnine... just like how molly can be methylone or beans can be PMA.  your stupid for asking for drugs in the first place. and when you finally get hit with the real deal beans you take 2 like you always do and you have no color in your eyes just a black hole and you realize you should have taken 1. and then your head hurts for 5 hours after.
the only real molly i have ever seen was the brown sugar sassafras and dioxymethamphetamine and it was in doses small enough to be half a capsule. and the brown stuff is incomplete synthesis and its that potent. and thats whats in real beans. so what the hell was that rail u snorted? poser.

You just basically said yourself it wasn't MDMA...  I think.  Half of that made no sense or was silly nonsense but you also said

but theres just as much of a chance it could have been TMFPP or BZP or ANYTHING.

so you pretty much agree with the original point and I'm not sure what that long, mostly nonsensical monologue was for...

There are more people imprisoned for the commission of drug offenses in the United States - close to 500,000 - than are incarcerated in England, France, Germany, and Japan for all crimes combined.  Examined in another way, the United States has 100,000 more people incarcerated for nonviolent drug offenses than all the countries of the European Union combined, despite the fact that the European Union has 100 million more citizens. :crankey:

I just want to go on the record that I think MDMA should be a legally traded substance and that we need quality control for it. However...I think people, particularly on these message boards, are very willing to downplay the risks of MDMA. Because there are risks. Namely, it is an amphetamine or whatever. It is a strong stimulant, not quite like your morning cup of coffee. When someone takes MDMA, it's like putting your body into hyperdrive. The last time I took that stuff, I was definitely experiencing some sort of cardiac distress, and I'm sure my blood pressure was quite high. It was uncomfortable.

If dosed appropriately, under strict quality-control, etc. yes certainly it's perfectly fine. However, how often is that the case? Pretty much never. It's not the most harmless thing in the world, and it bothers me when people seem to pretend that it is. It's not. It's pretty safe, yes, but there are risks. I'll put this out there: I think that if MDMA were taken as frequently as alcohol and by as many people that there might be as many related deaths, if not more.
