couple quick questions regarding oyster mushrooms. first off, when I birthed my jars yesterday they all had this white layer over the top of the dried verm. it didn't run through just on top. it smelled like mushrooms. I scraped it off, dumped the dried verm my cakes birthed perfect, but the seemed a little wet and maybe slimy, but they smelled amazing. I did the dunk and roll, and put them in my FC. Any thoughts? im a first timer by the way, thank.

So am I okay? Or was the slimy stuff bacteria? I mean they smell great. Also what is full colonization? When do I know they are ready to go?

sounds like they'll be fine. As long as it didn't smell bad, it should be fine.

Nah, they smell amazing, like life... I saw a couple brown spots, but I read it is probably waste. Came right off. So I believe it was starting to fruit? Like if I would have left it, a,mushroom would have cone out of the hole.

As long as you let them consolidate for at least 7 days, you're fine to birth. Metabolites are excreted when the mycelium is stressed, normally. Which makes total sense seeing as you used taller jars than 1/2 pint Wide-Mouths.

That first jar looks a bit suspect. The second jar looks fine. Sometimes the mycelium will appear different in the jars, because the cakes are pressed against the glass.

yeah, in the beginning it feels like it is a sort of masochistic hobby, tormenting yourself with impatience and being unsecure, but when you have your rituals (specific method of cultivation) in order, and you feel confident in actions and seeing myc bursting of white powerfull health, it gives almost an enlightened high
