Post your favorite Bassnectar tracks for me, I'll give them a listen. I just wanted to bridge the gap of communication in this thread. I think it's neat to hear the qualms people have with stuff I like, and I enjoy sharing what I like/dislike about other stuff you guys post. It's a good way to possibly find middle ground artists that might be new to one or the other parties involved.
I recently was playing with this- http://everynoise.com/engenremap.html
It's an awesome link for music geeks.
Also, I agree that most generic house/techno/whatever music with repetitive static breaks or whatever is boring. That's why I never got into dnb and stuff like that so much. I do like breaks though. Aphex Twin really captured my attention with his ability to improvise tons of spastic drum and breaks changes in some of his music. Especially on Syro, he really turned it up a notch with some of those tracks. I guess the younger generation of electronic music lovers are more into the dubsteppy stuff with more emphasis on buildups and then big "bass drops," which sounds kind of like something taken directly from a page in the techno/trance/house playbook actually.

That rule applies to so much other stuff though, and you're just as quick to write off entire genres of music because you consider it to be "custy shit" or whatever. My point is that there are exceptions to every rule. I don't expect to change anyone's taste or whatever, just maybe expose younger kids to stuff that was highly influential on me when I was around their age. That's all I'm aiming at.
If you want to PM me some links I'd be glad to check them out.

i just cant get into like any kind of steadybeat. just all sounds the same to me. theres not much creativity in house anymore. no originality, nothing unique. just bland generic stuff
in house i like justice, mord fustang, le castle vania, jack beats, crookers, wolfgang. that original shit

Justice original shit. Yeah look how those noobs layer bassdrum over kickdrum in 20 various notes to give you a dynamic steadybeat
o wait... generic samplepack kicks

I'm the same way about house. I don't like just generic club house music at all, it's terribly boring. I have way too short an attention span to enjoy that kind of shit.
You should give Danger a chance sometime. Kind of a retro chiptunes influence. He also does really smashing remixes too. I saw him in a this little club in Charlotte, NC years ago, kinda random but I took my girl down there for Valentine's day. It ended up being a really awesome show and people were really excited to have seen him after having no clue who it was.
I always direct people to this live set, it's kind of the ideal showcase of his goodness:

Also, I think Mr. Oizo is probably one of the more brilliant "house" artists around, he's always mixing up crazy shit in his live sets. His sound isn't quite as much that "canned" style you expect from the other Banger acts like Justice or whatever. They have kind of taken good electro house and cranked out a bunch of shit that seems a tad too predictable for my taste.

how hard it is to make something is completely irrelevant imo. its their sound. which is pretty unique

are Mr. Oizo's productions considered house? I'm not really good at telling genres...
Check out a mix Gez Varley (half of LFO) made not long ago for Slam Radio under the moniker G-Man. It's quite different from what they produced years ago but pretty cool I think.

Soundcloud is a great thing. I keep up with a lot of my faves via that alone almost. Like I said, I'm grossly out of touch with the ways of staying up to date. It's like I just can't find enough time to do all the research. I really enjoy skweee so I keep up with Eero Johanness's Soundcloud, same with Daniel Savio. Aphex put those 155 tracks on his all in HQ downloads too.
I never had a problem with Justice, I enjoyed their first big album, but it did seem to bring a mainstream quality to that electro house thing. I guess they came along right when Daft Punk did their big Coachella gig which kind of revitalized their careers and led to Alive 2007. Justice seemed to really capitalize on the interest stirred up by all that Daft stuff.

daft has decent stuff but their last album was pure shite
its funny how people wanted to see them soooo bad before that album came out and now theyre just shit no one cares about
soundcloud is great tho. i dont even DL music anymore or use iTunes. i just use SC and follow tons of artists and channels. i listen to new music almost everyday in my car cuz of it

Yeah I guess. I'm not that big of a fan of Justice... I only know of a few tracks by them.
I agree that there's so much music out there it's rather impossible to keep track of everything. Slam radio always host good DJs/producers so check that out if you want though it's more techno. Robert Hood and Carl Craig's set in last year T in the Park are pretty damn good if you're into Detroit techno/house.

I disagree about Random Access Memories. I enjoyed it a lot. I haven't listened to it a while, maybe I'll give it a spin later. It did take several listens for me to really get into it. I particularly enjoyed the track he did with Panda Bear (I loved Person Pitch), but there were just so many good ones IMO.
I'm listening to Beem right now.
Halfway into posting this it went to
Niño - 'Get On The Floor'
Techno and trance just put me off, I can handle the more crazy acid shit a lot easier than I can the straight up 4 on the floor with some pads and a lead synth with some delay making it sound all tripped out. I listened to FSOL's "Lifeforms" again the other day for the first time in a few months or weeks and I just really miss when music like that came out and just sounded completely new and different from anything else I'd heard before.
