Here’s some Slugabed. His music definitely lies within the domain of “bass culture”, and while he used elements of dubstep, his sound kind of ran parallel to it. Thick bass, similar bpm, but Slugabed tunes are very glitchy and quirky. Some of them are quite melodic. He made bass music that was fantastic, but minus the (real or attempted) seriousness that pervaded dubstep. Real whimsical music that was a well made mishmash of several styles and elements.

I found this today, think it’s pretty neat. It’s Paul Oakenfold and Carl Cox doing a set at Stonehenge. They decked the henge out in lights and graphics projectors so it looks cool. It’s crazy to think of people dancing or doing ceremonies out there thousands of years ago, and then to see that it still happens in a modern way.

Burke, that's awesome!! My first rave was at the UWE in Bristol (I forget the year) and Carl Cox was headlining. I only remember snippets of it now but I remember it was an amazing experience for me at the time.
I grew up about an hour and a half away from Stonehenge but I've never been to it, not even sight seeing. I remember in the 90s there were a lot of gatherings there especially in the summers at the solstice. About the time illegal raves were becoming real big though the government passed the criminal justice and public order act, which was used to stop anti social behaviour and one of the things they used it for was stopping unlicensed gatherings and parties. For a good while Stonehenge was fenced off with barbed wire and shit.
I must try and visit it next time I'm home.

I too have seen Carl Cox in the 90s, a few times. He’s great always! Never saw Oakie, somehow. Maybe one day, but it’s not a high priority.
That’s cool about living so close to Stonehenge! I hope you do go check it out when you go home some time. Bet it’s amazing. That’s how it goes though, when you live near something like that. I live less than 90 minutes from New York City and like an hour from Philadelphia, and I’ve seen such a small amount of either city. But I’d definitely check out Stonehenge, haha.

You need to get it together Burke.
I would go on a fast food tour of New York, and get a corn dog at a boring baseball game, and smoke a coney on coney Island.
Play some basketball in Brooklyn, and play cards in Queens, and after that, maybe some chili beans.

Carl Cox was here last year. I tried to get y’all to come but you’re homebodies.
That Stonehenge set led me to this Oakie classic set from Tommorrowland 2017

What's your problem with NYC?
Too big a reputation to even start anything with it?
Can't live up to the impossibly high reputation?

I love NYC, it’s just that I only seem to get out there once or twice a year. New York is great to visit though.
I saw Bicep this summer, that song was the second to last one they played. It was bonkers. They closed their set with ‘Glue’.
Koods: we’ll see, idk. I would like to see Oakie, but it’s tough to get out of town because of my son.
