Watch as I bust 2 myths! Photo Proof inside! Not for the Faint of Heart

Ok, so there were 2/3 "myths" that keep popping up so I want to put a kibosh on it.
Myths Busted:
1) Stumps rot - false they cover back in mycelium and will grow more mushrooms off the previous clusters increasing surface area. It takes about 2 full flushes after the harvest for them to return and another 2 - 3 flushes before this space starts getting used.
2) Spore drop stops mushroom growth - false it stalls it. I kept this tub without dunking it for 2 weeks after I let it jizz all over itself. After 1 week I started getting condensation and 2 days ago I got pins.
3)) You have to dunk - 6 flushes in all no dunk.
So I present to you the photo proof. THIS is not for the weak stomached:

Thanks, I missed being on the board but I had to take care of a family member when I wasn't working. Didnt leave much time for the fungi, thank goodness it was during colonization and not the period of grain to grain or spawning.....
As far as it looking nasty....yeah.... I wanted to see how much was true, I stopped cutting at the base about 30 tubs ago. Only last 1 out of that 30 after a dunk to bacteria and cobweb.
The spore thing, well that was b/c I was lazy last 2 tubs. I let it jizz and rot and those fucking things are on their 9th flush just shooting spores and rotting fruits. No contamination surprisingly.
This was one of the fruits that provided the spore for what you see. There were about 6 of them on this brick.

Here is an update just 36 hours later before I chopped down the big ones. As yo can see it looks like new mycelium is poking through the spore drop. New clusters are forming off of old clusters. If this aint some circle of lion king life shit I dunno what is.

Like mushrooms, smells great. Just harvested probably what will be a half ounce dry and have them in the dehydrator. It looks super nasty on the sub but I can assure you there is no "bad" growth. Now the tub i accidently dunked for 12 hours..... that was the nastiest smell ever. Only lasted 2 days before I could smell the stench outside the tub.
I stopped cutting the at the sub because I kept tearing it up. Then I got lazy and stopped cleaning them off. Next thing I know I get good growth over them.

Oh I don't doubt it's all good, it's just nice to know if I were to ever give it a try what it's supposed to smell like. I mean, it LOOKS like it smells ass, haha.

Well yeah, from the looks of it. I thought it was going to be god awful myself or have some kind of funk. The spore drops definitely slows the growth. It was 2 weeks till this flush popped up and now its taking off like normal. I will probably toss it after this as it makes me a lil ill to look at.

Harvesting again, As you can see I do not harvest whole clusters, I let them go till the veil starts to tear before they come down. You can see new growth coming up from the spore drops, along with new pins forming.

They could be included in Tmethyl's thread..... just a thought.....I think it would be pretty cool.....

I agree on the second and third "busted myths" but the first one I have seen many times.
So I guess I just wanted to mention that stumps CAN rot...but they will only do so if there is another issue unrelated to the stumps themselves
Here was my post a while back:

Regardless of the cause, I wanted to make it known that stumps can Here's some nice green fuzz to look at, each is growing over where stumps were left after harvest:
And here is what the problem turned out to be (my cultures):

It looks like you have a problem with molds infused into the mushroom mycelium, hitchhiking along for the ride. I've seen this many times with shiitake also. The molds and the mushroom mycelium are growing side by side. See if you can isolate it on agar, or start over with fresh cultures. RR

Thanks Frank, I was trying to find this thread you were referring to like 2 weeks ago. I need to get a time machine.
