That's cool. I lack petri dishes... and jars,lol.. I have all this material with nothing to do with it until I get more plates or more grains, lol. I do one transfer at a time right now cause I can't even afford a sleeve of plastic ones, but luckily I have a flow hood and my procedure is top notch, so contams are minimal even doing it one at a time. haha Looks like I might have gotten a nice one here...I'm looking forward to watching this on grain and testing the fruit...

I hope the mazatapec variety does not disappoint you like it consistently does for me.
I find it to put out some nice canopies here or there, but even the best only gave me 4 ounces dry. They are prone to tiny-ass fruits.
I've worked with maz more than I'd ever like to admit
I think you may have some sectoring in your dish but that's a bad angle.
Also, you may want to consider making isolates from clones of fast growing fruits from MS. In my blind isolation work, I only had about a 15-20% "hit" rate for good-fruiting cultures.
The rest were complete garbage, but you'll never know till you fruit them.
The visual appearance on agar doesn't really mean much in the end. Better to grow out MS first, to sort out your strong fruiters from the weak.

Yeah Frank... I've been a bit disappointed myself with this variety..and there is indeed a few sectors in this dish. The one thing I have enjoyed with my mazzies so far is high potency... so I'm basically trying to find a mazzie super strain but it's going to take a long time with the small lab I have set up. I get payed monthly, so each month my supplies grow. Eventually I'll have dozens of perfect isolates. In fact, I have a cambodian MS dish with some nice looking sectors that I'm probably going to transfer to agar in half pint jars....

Do an MS monotub, just one.
Clone the first dozen pins that pop up.
You now have a dozen isolates, and odds are they are vigorous and productive.
The work is done for you, and done better.
Plus you get a whole tubs worth of fruit from the deal
This is how I built my library of about 50 cultures, all of which are on slants and in cold storage. You'll have far less failures (poor fruiters) this way.

Indeed... I've been meaning to produce clones as well.. I just love all of it so it's more like play time for me,lol. I plan on doing everything from MS mono's to long term storage of master culture slants of super strains... I should have cloned some of my recent outdoor fruits because some where just lovely, but again, I had nowhere to put them. I recently have all my 1/2 pints available, so I'll be doing some more agar work soon...in fact, I should run my flow hood for the next 24 to prepare...

i'm in the process of testing 6 varieties of ms>agar isolates>fruits. about 6-8 isolates of each variety. that's a lot of tubs for me. and i'm finding the same thing. many very vigorous colonizers but they turn out to be crappy fruiters. i just harvested my first flush of my first PE iso yesterday and was very disappointed.
i really wish i would have read what you just posted 3 months ago frank.
i'll start cloning first flush pins next chance i get. yay, more petri dish storage in the fridge... my girlfriend is gonna kill me. the crappy thing is, i sold a minifridge on craigslist a month before i started this hobby for way less than it was worth.
how impt would it be to start with ms for my clones to ensure genetic vigor? would it be less than optimal to continue with my blind iso's and cloning from them? that almost sounds like it would defeat the purpose and would still be a crapshoot.
-------------------- I'm never 100% on anything, just close enough to risk looking foolish.

I transferred 4 sectors of this tonight, I'll come with pics when they develop.

Disturbing, but My new experiments with Agar use Maz....But your culture looks IDENTICAL to the ones I have. I cannot seem to get a good photo because of the flash and auto-zoom...but disturbing....

Though I don't want to really engage in a strain debate.....Im glad that Im not the only person who has had less than impressive results with Maz. My MS experience has consistently delivered small fruits also. Its nice to hear others with the same experience. It makes me question my methods a bit less.

Maz is what I have ready to spawn to bulk on Tuesday.... maybe I'll only do 2 tubs and save the space.
