Question on methods for changing perspective

What I want to ask is how do I change the way I feel when philosophising on marijuana?
When I am high, I think of philosophical things. However, it gives me anxiety and it is pretty annoying. I'm high at the moment, and whilst reading an article about how earth life may have come from Mars - and reading about the fact Mars has no magnetic field anymore to protect it - I thought about how earth has its magnetic field and just picture the planet in space with the Sun's deadly force blasting at us constantly.
And, instead of feeling good, thinking how awesome it is that we have that, I just feel anxious about that actual fact that we distract ourselves from in day to day life: that we are on this rock, in space, near a deadly star which one day will die.
It would be nice to just enjoy the philosophical thoughts that I go deep into when stoned, but all I get is anxiety! Sometimes I just wish I wasn't stoned anymore!
Does anyone else get this?

Yes. I can't smoke more than a bowl or so of marijuana anymore, after years of steady puffing. Some research points towards long term marijuana (ab)use leading to lowered activation levels in the brain region called the amygdala, which is responsible for the feeling of paranoid anxiety that you get when you smoke too much. As a result, it takes less and less pot after a while to trigger this mental state. It's also pretty common among most of the friends I know who've been smoking for years. Some say that it happened to them after they quit for a while and their tolerance dropped; supposedly getting back into a heavy smoking routine will diminish these feelings but the anxiety is just too uncomfortable to get past. I don't really miss it these days though--I had my fun.

I get cannabis induced anxiety. I quit smoking because of it. There are some activities that I can still enjoy while high on cannabis but I don't like to because I always have to explain myself to friends that do smoke. "I can't smoke around people, it gives me anxiety." But you said you're all for smoking! "I am! I just can't do it around people!" You see...
I used to be able to smoke all the time in nearly any conditions but not so anymore unfortunately.

I think the opposite is true for me.

I get both. I didn't used to but after 40 years of use it seems to be the case. I've given it up.

I'll only really smoke now if I'm drunk or on benzos at the same time. Does a wonder at killing any anxiety. Also marijuana with high levels of CBD in it as well as indica strains seem to be less anxiety and paranoia-prone than other types. Overall, though, the high's too foggy for my liking these days. I hate losing my short-term memory even if the high is pretty fun.

Hmm, for some reason I do better with pure sativa strains. I'm pretty high strung too, never liked coke or other uppers.
I remember not fairing much better in the anxiety department stoned as a teen. Couple times I had to drive away from the drive through menu because I was either laughing/snickering un-uncontrollably or couldn't remember/think enough to place an order.
uhhhhhhh.... uhhhhhh... okay just drive, go go, away from this place.

Sativas calm me more and are a more manageable high that i can go about my day on since nowadays the indicas just fuck me up and leave my ears ringing and me so high that i feel like someone who hasn't smoked in years just smoked again.

Yeah it makes me anxious / panicky too. So rarely use it.

I don't smoke weed anymore at all. The effort to fight against my train of paranoid thoughts wasn't worth the high. I think its helped my perspective & state of mind greatly to have had that break (almost a year) from fighting myself. It gave me the space to work on underlying issues that, in retrospect, I feel were exacerbating the paranoia (lifestyle, etc).
Idk if I'll ever smoke again, though. Last time I got high on weed, an episode of Futurama (the one where Bender's replicas devour all the water on Earth) really freaked me out.

Futurama is a great stoner cartoon though. Just so many weird turns

Thanks for the replies everyone. Glad to know I'm not alone then with this. I'm not a heavy smoker of it (I used to be) but now it's just the odd pipe now and then (no smoking it with tobacco).
It's quite useful for when you need to study and aren't in the mood. I find if I get the right dose I get right into the mood for learning things (especially when it's neuroscience!).
Ahh! Futurama is awesome. Not watched that in a while! South Park is my favourite. I just downloaded Season 1 for pure nostalgia. Reminds me of Friday nights watching it late on Channel 4 (in the UK) when I was 12/13. But, I digress :P
Thanks again!

You should try reading philosophy while stoned. I used to have the same issue but now I have more of a solid foundation of philosophical thought and it keeps my mind out of negative loops when I am in deep marijuana-induced contemplation. Not to mention it allows me to get to very deep places within myself.
My suggestions:
Ramana Maharshi Martin Heidegger Jean Paul Sartre Buddha

study lots of different things to gain perspective astronomical geo physical facts can be complimented by microcosmic and even molecular biological facts. not complimented directly, but by similarities, you begin to get the zig zag zoom rhythm of things that work together, and find that there are amazing and reasonable exceptions to the gross rules.
eg our fragile ecosphere is wedged between incredible pressures and heat beneath the mantle, and vast expanses of freezing nothingness beyond the stratosphere.
amazingly it has a terrific balance, weather systems, and teaming life.
look into that and keep on looking more deeply into that.
and study music and harmony - sympathetic vibrations,
different things that dovetail in our consciousness or sense of beauty and art.
the astrophysical masochism is just not working out for you.
