Can I make a cider out of acorn squash/pumpkins, no hops, no grains?

I have no money, but way more acorn squash and pumpkin than I need and alcohol is always nice to have around. I've got a brewing bucket w/uh.. I forget the name, basically a GE plug thing . I was thinking of just extracting the juices (not sure the best way to do this? Bake/Boil and then press/strain perhaps?), add some sugar/LME to taste, and then some yeast should be a basic recipe right? I'm sure it won't taste the best, but it's better than simply wasting all these fruits and I definitely can't eat them all. I've made a cider once and a couple of beers in the past so I know the basics, but those are a lot more standard than a pumpkin/acorn cider. Not sure if cider is even the proper term for this, but before mixing the ingrediants at random I figured I should ask on here and get some pointers.
edit: Also should I let the acorn squash ripen a lot before using it? It's starting to turn orange as it is, but some are still quite green on the outside. When I cook it though it should soften up and denature the starches anyway right?

So I can just make it into a paste? Do I not need to remove the fibers or anything, I guess they'll be broken down by the yeast?

I'd just cut them up into as small pieces as possible. Most things I've tried fermented fall apart into a sloppy mess that sinks to the bottom after a few weeks and can be decanted away from. In any case, the sugars should dissolve out.
Definitely add some additional sugar or honey to get the ABV up . If it tastes gross, you can always distill it.

randomly googled pumpkin wine: http://winemaking.jackkeller.net/reques53.asp
I'd let them ripen up to get the fermentable sugar content as high as possible.

I grew a small patch of pumpkins which turned into a rather large patch, and the acorn squash I have no idea. I planted maybe 5 plants or so and a couple months later they were popping up all over the yard, some quite far away from where I planted the original ones too. They even overtook another small garden I had. I'm not sure if I just chucked the seeds in the yard or what, but they're everywhere. I've thrown a bunch in the compost, but went to try and gather them all today and have about 5 gallons of acorn squash atm .

Just make a brew with your LME, some brown sugar, and some honey. Get it started first while you are prepping the pumpkins/squash. Then cook up the pumpkins and squash into a mash and sieve into the fermenting brew. Add rest of your sugars then too if you want it strong and sweet. In other words give the yeast a chance to really get rocking before adding the pumpkin/squash mix and balance of sugar. I would hold off on the spices for a while until you go to secondary. Figure a pretty long primary and strain carefully into your secondary. Add spices to hot water, cool, then add to brew.

Pumpkin Wine - this turned out VERY good!!! Even non-wine-drinkers were going back for a second glass.
I'll be making another batch this year when the pie pumpkins are ready.

I'm old enough to remember that thread!
Similar to OP, I have some squashes in my case some very interesting multicolored acorn ones, that grew out of the compost heap! Although frankly sugar pumpkins? for pie sound better for wine...
