WBS jars can I use these for G2G????
    #18777549 - 08/30/13 02:10 PM (10 years, 5 months ago)

So these jars are of age to be fully colonized, have some healthy stringy mycelium growth, but also have a few spots visible where grains are not being fully colonized on the outside. You can see the date I inoculated these. I used a spacious glovebox, and scrapped spores off tin foil directly into the jars of WBS, one or two g2g transfers after that, and now I need to G2G again, but they all have these spots of no myc.

So should I use them??? are they contaminated??? toss???

is scraping spores into wbs jars a bad idea?
whatsayou?
You may choose only one

As far as I know, they look fine. My bird seed cakes looked about like that... But i have only used it twice, so I have very little experience using millet and bird seed.

Look they seem ok for transfer. I notice just one issue. Some of the jars have some condensation, so if you want to do it, don't wait for it. Second, some got liquid accumulation at the bottom. If you use them for transfer, I advice you to discard the mycellium at the bottom on those jars. One last thing, as you do the transfer, pay attention to all uncolonized mycellium chunks and discard those.

Cheers,
maia

How does this happen? Because it's totally contradictory to itself.
You can't have an "uncolonized mycelium chunk," because if it's a mycelium chunk, then it's colonized.

OP - those jars are 100% fine and were ready to use a bit ago.
The grains you see that are " not colonized" are colonized, they're just pressed against the side of the jar.

Fully colonized WBS jars:

Thanks for spotting this error. I guess it's quite obvious that i was trying to say "uncolonized substrate chunk" but one can never know ... over-analyzers might over-think it.
