Chantrelles?
    #18780738 - 08/31/13 09:46 AM (10 years, 4 months ago)

Colorado front range, 9,100 feet, grew on the ground in clusters near aspens in an unshaded area where a Ponderosa had been cut down, wavy cap, tan to yellowish color on top, white gills and stem, stem turns brown where cut, quite delicate in that pieces break off very easily, max size 2 inches high and 2-inch diameter. Closest picture I could find would be some kind of chantrelle but need a confirm.

No. Maybe a Hebeloma or something, I'm not sure.

Cantharellus don't have true gills like those, instead they have somewhat wrinkled and folded structures which are false gills, like these:

I also thought Tricholoma, but the gills appear to be completely free, don't they?

A spore print would clear this up but hjens probably tossed them.

Been trying to make a spore print for several hours now but so far it's just white on white. Will see what develops overnight.

Nah not Hebeloma.    Tricholoma or Leucopaxillus gentianus.

OP, how do they taste?
