I first thought of buckeye
and you are in the buckeye state
but probably a young hickory or walnut.

Alright I think i narrowed it down.
Pignut hickory (carya glabra)
Pignut hickory trees grow on broad ridges. Their leaves consist of 5 sharply pointed, serrated edged, dark green and shiny leaflets on a short rachis.
or
Southern shagbark hickory (carya caronlinae septentrionalis)
The southern shagbark grows in limestone soils. Its leaflets are jagged-edged and come to sharp points, and generally grow 5 to a rachis.

TY paracelsus, falcon and untitled! I have other pics that the leaves are all from one point. I will go take some more picks later but I think you hit the nail on the head with one of the trees you mentioned there paracelsus! I will look those up and see which it was. thanx again,

I think it most resembles he Southern shagbark hickory and pignut hickory. The leafs dont get shiny is my only thought that they might not be Southern shagbark hickory, TY I love learning this stuff.Quote:

spore baby said: I've been interested in Ginseng for many years now. This year, I told myself, why the hell not. So I went small scale this year and if some plants come up next summer I will go for 1 pound of seeds next fall.
I just planted 2 ounces of American Ginseng seeds today. I paid $26.95 for the seeds. There's supposed to be 800-1000 seeds in 2 ounces.
They came from here:
http://www.emeraldcastlefarms.com/seedorder.html
I also planted 100+ Korean Ginseng seeds today that I bought from a vendor in China on Ebay.
These one came from:
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/100-Hardy-Chinese-korea-panax-ginseng-seeds-Wild-ginseng-seed-/350881543810?pt=AU_Plants_Seeds_Bulbs&hash=item51b22b7682#ht_2417wt_904
This way I have both major types of Ginseng, The seeds were planted in a forest and I know it will take a few years. But hey, at least I will be able to say I tried. I've never seen a real ginseng plant.
If more people would buy seeds and grow their own instead of trying to find wild ginseng maybe there would be more out there. The wild stocks have been hit way too hard.
Great info and links spore baby!!! TY very mush! I have yet to find one single ginseng plant this year! Your right too many people snagging it. I found plants that look similar. Its a long wait but worth it I think! Just keep the place a secret so no one profits from your patience and money its like growing mushrooms. Id love to try plugs and grow Maitake, but it takes up to two years to start the mycelium. I wont even be into mushrooms by then probably lmao. I have a hobby for a year two years tops then im burnt out on it and am consuming all my efforts elsewhere. Ah well
