Hey ya'll. So I know asking for advice here isn't a substitute for "real" medical advice, I thought I'd give it a shot.
About three weeks ago, I started getting sharp shooting pains in my upper left abdomen. They were noticeable, but nothing like, keeping me up through the night or anything like that. It persisted for about 4 days, and then I figured I should go and see a doctor about it.
I went to the doctors, and she recommended that I get an Ultrasound. Hesitant because I don't have a lot of money, I decided to do it. My results came back that I have an enlarged spleen.
Along with those pains, I started having the left side of my body kind of go numb. They ran an EKG and said that I had a text book case of someone who's healthy, and that I shouldn't worry about a heart attack or anything like that. Those symptoms went away.
Well recently, about 3 days ago, I started getting some pains on the right side of my abdomen. They're not as sharp as my left side, but they're noticeable. Today I had the sharp pain come in on my left side that was constant. It stayed there for about ten minutes. I called my doctor, and didn't really get much advice. They just said let's see what'll happen with some blood work.
I understand that they're trying to help me, but it really sucks because A.) I don't have much money and B.) Medical doctors seem to be concerned with making said money, and putting me on a revolving door of tests. I seriously have no clue what I should do. All they did was identify a problem and let me be. Any suggestions on what may help my spleen? Even if I have an enlarged spleen (Which is on my left side), wtf could be wrong on my right side? I'm just overall panicky and confused.

Is there any chance it is just gas? Sometimes if I have just a little it can cause pain if it is trapped in the wrong place. You might try taking a few tablets of activated charcoal with water (it's pretty cheap) just to see if it makes a difference (because it absorbs gas really well and will tell you if that is the problem).
I also wonder if it could be a food allergy that is causing inflammation in your intestines. If you want to self-test whether it is inflammation causing the pain you could try taking a few capsules of turmeric, which is a really strong anti-inflammatory. That won't tell you the root cause but personally it is something i would try.
You could also try eliminating common allergens (milk, wheat, eggs, soy, peanuts, etc.)

It's not gas, at least that's what I was told by a doctor. I'm not constipated either.
But that self test sounds like a great idea! Turmeric? I'll have to see if my local pharmacy carries that.
And I never even thought about food allergies. I would have no idea where to start. I guess I'd try cutting out milk first? Thanks a ton for the advice.

You need blood tests done. They need to look at your complete blood count with differential. Possibly might even need a blood smear.

Yeah, a blood test is probably the first thing you should get actually. They are not too expensive...might be included in the copay? They can tell you things like if your liver is working overdrive. But I just re-read you post and it sounds like the doc already suggested that.
