gymnopilus sp. ID?
    #18779353 - 08/30/13 09:31 PM (10 years, 4 months ago)

These first 3 pics were of what I think is a gym species growing from a pile of mixed wood chips.
Rust colored spores and the rest is pretty visable in the photos.

the next two pics are of these clusters found growing off of a tree root in a sandy dry creek bed. Possibly a different type of gym?
Any id's would be great I'm not that familiar with the species and I'd like to be more informed.

Gymnopilus luteofolius is a very promising guess without a workup.

Are we positive that the last 2 are Armillaria tabescens? I hear they are not bad to eat and would like to try them, but i want to get a definite on it before I do.

Yes!!!

The only toxic lookalike in your area is Omphalotus illudens.
