Oh, and by the way, greencrush -- what if it's a 25 pound dog instead of this cat that ventured into your yard and was a threat to your 17 pound son and 14 pound Jack Terrier? Do you still feel the same way?

For me it would depend entirely on the circumstances. If it's just walking along minding its own business then that's one thing, if it's acting aggressively around my kids that's another.

Totally agree. If it's stalking, say your house pet, or acting aggressively towards yourself -- I mean yeah. Deadly force is sometimes necessary.

By all accounts though that little dude was just walking around minding its own business, probably trying to get home. Or maybe just enjoying being outside for the first time. But if it was being aggressive, okay. That's entirely different.
But the shoot first mentality (no matter what), I just don't really understand that.

You come up with the most intellectually sound points. How is one to compete with such brilliance? Nobody here is frightened for their own safety; I said concerned for the safety of my child and pets.
So you never answered my question earlier. I realize that in this particular story, the initial calls to animal control went ignored. But if this happened in your neighborhood, would you at least try animal control first? Or would you shoot first and ask questions later? I'm asking you personally. The other dude already said shoot first.
I would try animal control first, and probably the DNR as well.

Hope you got a few extra thousands to spare, boomers. IIRC those things run anywhere from $2,500 to 5K. Could be wrong, though. Whatever it is they ain't cheap.

If your 17 lb kid got into my yard I'd shoot it for the safety of my kid and pets. It would be your fault for letting it out in the first place.

Felines are stronger and fiercer than canines. They also stalk their prey and this particular cat was half wild animal so it was probably much more dangerous than a 25 pound dog. I still wouldn't have shot the cat though.

It was thrown in a trash can. I don't think it was done in an act of self-defense or defending another pet. If you cared that much for your pets life, I think you'd at least have the respect to find out more info, bury it, anything. But throwing it in the trash? What's that shit? The anti-feline cartel?
What a beautiful animal. Sad stuff.

Yeah, very sad. It was obviously killed by a very stupid or thoughtless person if they thought the best home for it was in a trash can.

It was one of the people in the neighborhood who killed it and dumped the body in the trashcan. The owners were reportedly frantic and very crushed over this.
