My son weighs 17 lbs. Cat got out a window, cat can get in a window. What do pitbulls have to do with it? You don't like that argument, fine, here is another. My Jack Russell weights 14 lbs. Why should I have to worry about my pet on my own property? It's my fucking property. The fuck outta here.

Why not call animal control then? Why is your first instinct to shoot it? Just wondering.

It wouldn't be. Did you read the article?

Neighbors said they had contacted the Michigan Humane Society and Detroit Police when the cat — called a Savannah — was seen roaming the neighborhood but both declined to investigate.

My first instinct is to shoot it because that's the quickest most effective solution I can come up with.

But your first instinct would indeed be to call animal control, right? At least that's better than nothing. And if they declined to come investigate, and you're that frightened by a 25 pound cat, fine bro, shoot away.

So let me get this straight. You buy a multi-THOUSAND dollar cat and you live in DETROIT, specifically close to a bad neighborhood, and you decide to NOT get the transmitter chip implanted that gives you access to your pet's location with just a PHONE CALL? Those only cost a few hundred at most. I mean I know they didn't expect it to get out but if you ever leave windows open you should realize that it might get out being a 25lb cat as was previously mentioned.
-------------------- In science it often happens that scientists say, 'You know that's a really good argument; my position is mistaken,' and then they actually change their minds and you never hear that old view from them again. They really do it. It doesn't happen as often as it should, because scientists are human and change is sometimes painful. But it happens every day. I cannot recall the last time something like that happened in politics or religion. [Carl Sagan, 1987 CSICOP keynote address]

You come up with the most intellectually sound points. How is one to compete with such brilliance? Nobody here is frightened for their own safety; I said concerned for the safety of my child and pets.

A wild animal doesn't have to be big to do you some damage. Perhaps I could win in a hand to hand fight with a 25 pound lynx or a 25 pound raccoon, but I would not want to try. They have sharp claws and fast reflexes. A domestic animal hybridized with a wild one is at best semi-domesticated IMO, you never know when those instincts will kick in.

Looks pretty lanky to me in the pic. It's no more a big housecat than a wolf hybrid is just a big dog. It's a different kind of animal entirely.

So you never answered my question earlier. I realize that in this particular story, the initial calls to animal control went ignored. But if this happened in your neighborhood, would you at least try animal control first? Or would you shoot first and ask questions later? I'm asking you personally. The other dude already said shoot first.
