well, if assad moves all of his stuff to human shields, it really puts pressure on the U.S. on to go ahead or not.. if we do, than obummer, is more of a piece of shit that leveled to his playing field.

as i said, obummer really killed the element of surprise in this matter. and is chasing his tail on crossing the 'red line' this is all of his ego.

I admire that Obama has chosen to ask Congress for permission to attack Syria. It upsets the long-running precedent of executive power that has given us every war between WWII and whatever happens next. It's a courageous strike for democracy in a country that has increasingly sided with despotism over its republican ideals.

should have been done before opening mouth

Nah, he said he believes he will still have the authority to order a strike against Syria even if congress votes against it. I mentioned it in an earlier post. It's all for show.

No, they're supposed to debate on it all week. One thing that really irked me was that Obama said he may still attack Syria, even if congress decides against it, and he believes that this is within his authority and is okay. This nigger actually believes it is within his authority to ignore the will of the people, and send us to war. Rand Paul is vehemently opposing him, of course. Rand Paul, the peoples champion. :rabble: Remember that when election time rolls around.

The truth of the matter is that congress is mostly supporting the idea of action against Syria, and it is probably going to happen. They are talking about using airstrikes to destroy chemical weapons sites, limit the ability of Syrias military to carry out farther attacks, etc. They have repeatedly stressed, "no boots on the ground". The issue that they debated most today was mainly whether this could be done without drawing us into an all out war in Syria.
I didn't get to watch all day, but I probably caught a total of two hours worth of the session. I will be following more closely tomorrow, since I don't have work. I'll be sure to keep this thread updated with actual news. It's been de-railed pretty hard.

Seriously, a large part of the session was spent with Rand Paul and John Kerry arguing over whether Obama had to listen to the congress decision.
Here you go.

He does have the authority to order a strike without congress' permission, as it has been exercised in every American war of aggression that has occurred since World War II.

Wow, thanks for informing me, but I know that already. My point was that he isn't really asking congress shit. It's all for show, so don't be proud. He isn't upsetting any precedents, he is following the usual precedent of deception.

it would be simple if they just put matters like this to a vote:thumbup: then people couldnt get so angry because they actually had a decision. I dont think the president alone should have the power to declare war but thats just me:shrug:

I love it how Britain proved it isn't stupid enough to fall for the same thing part deux ten years later and that it isn't completely americas lackey.

'Murica is burning some serious bridges over some dumb shit that has no effect on the average american.

Wont be long before someone finally challenges our global hegemony. Noam Chomsky has some interesting views on the "american war on terror" He claims america under their own definition (the calculated use of violence or threat of violence to attain goals that are political, religious, or ideological in nature. This is done through intimidation, coercion, or instilling fear.) is the largest exporter of terrorism worldwide pretty interesting stuff :strokebeard.

"Wanton killing of innocent civilians is terrorism, not a war against terrorism."

Total disagreement with you there.

We are, if not one of, the most technologically advanced countries in the world and culturally advanced (if you call that advancement). It does seem like our main export is war though :huxleyfacepalm:

Our presidents jsut get more and more whacked out each and every cycle though. You know when you look back on the bush days as the good ole days, times are pretty shitty. Fuck all these neoliberal institutionalists. Classical Realism for the win.

I think its a foregone conclusion at this point. Obama wants it, and even if congress votes it down (not going to happen) its on. OP sums it up pretty well lol.

Good thing we gave this dude a Nobel Peace Prize.

To rebel against our government would take millions to start. Getting those millions without the government arresting the leaders of the rebellion is next to impossible.
