Habitat: Portland, Oregon. Popped up in my grass backyard (Aug 30) after a few days of rain. They were in bunches of about 3-8 spaced about a foot from other bunches.
Gills: Gills a medium dull brown color, a little darker than cap. Adnexed.
Stem: 5-10 cm high, 0.3 to 0.6 cm thick (diameter), light brown/cream color, smooth, hollow, there is a small black ring towards the top of them
Cap: 2-6 cm diameter, caramel brown color and darker taupe brown around the edges, black around the very edges, slightly felty, conical
Spore print color: Very black
Bruising: Bruises to a darker brown
Other information: Cap is dry, stems are a little wet but not slimy by any means Smell like the mushrooms you put in salad ;D
My wild guess is that this might be a Panaeolus or Psathyrella...

Not sure, But im thinking Psathyrella species.
-------------------- Favorite quote: I want to know if they are active and magic or not. And if they are not active, can i pick them before they are active and then they will become active or do they have to grow till they activate?

Lacrymaria lacrymabunda may or may not be the new name for this.

Psathyrella velutina is a former name. Psathyrella/Lacrymaria lacrymabunda is seen as a synonym by some authors, but is separated by others on the basis of its smoother spores. A recent molecular study (Padamsee and collaborators, 2008) found specimens labeled "Lacrymaria velutina" to be genetically separated, suggesting that species concepts in Lacrymaria may need to be modified.
Rogers says Lacrymaria velutina .
