Exclusive interview with Vinsue 8

Today I had the pleasure of sitting down to do an interview with Vinsue. Here's how it went down......
Learyfan arrives at Vinsue's house in The Who's magic bus.

Learyfan gets out of the bus and starts blasting Shroomery Pics Vol. 1 from a boom box.
Vinsue hears the sounds and is compelled to walk outside.
Learyfan hands Vinsue a piece of paper that contains his objective and both men slide back to the bus. Learyfan hits the gas and the Enter/World Spirit style interview is underway..
Quote:
vinsue said: Q: Vinsue, what brought you to The Shroomery?
A: I needed a hobby while recovering from this...
I was off my feet for about 6 or 8 weeks, pain killers galore, and while surfing around, I found the Shroomery.
Q: Which psychedelic did you first try and what was your first experience like:
A: In 11th grade, I ate a 4 way window pane. I was a mainly a pot/pill head, wasn't really familiar with LSD. My experience? Completely mind blown. I've never been that spaced out since then. I can't really describe it. Colors, waves, break throughs again and again, swirley curly crazy shit. You know, tripped the fuck out...
Q: What was your best psychedelic experience?
A: Age 18 I got this brown powder mescaline at the local community college.(excellent hookups there) I snorted maybe a half gram, and sat down with my acoustic guitar. I wasn't a very good player, but that day the music flowed from my fingers out into the universe and back in multi dimensional awesomeness. I wish I had tape recorded that day.
Q: What was the best concert or festival you went to?
A: We went to concerts every weekend back in high school at the Spectrum or Tower Theater in Phila. 5 or $6 general admission tickets. I never saw the Stones or Led Zep, but did see practically every other rockers out there. ZZTop, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Edgar Winters stick out. My favorite fest was Phila. Folk Fest in 1973. I can't remember the line up. I know David Bromberg, Doc Watson, Peg Leg Sam, I think John Prine, and some great blue grass bands and fiddlers played as well as Jim Croce,(a Phila boy)who died 1 month later. Sat. morning all our meat and cheese fell into the cooler water and turned nasty. We found some black beautys for 50 cents each and some blotter so no worrys about food. I ate 4. We smoked a joint with Bonnie Raitt, too. She wasn't playing, just hanging out. I didn't even know who she was. My older friend set me strait.
Q: How sexually free were women in your day? Nauture Boy and other people have said that all you had to say was "Wanna ball?" and you'd get laid. Was that your experience as well?
A: Not quite, but as a dealer, I had women as needed. I've always been fairly monogamous though. No condoms or fear of STD's either, and HIV was years away.
Q: Did you ever get to try STP/DOM?
A: Probably, but never bought it under that name.
Q: Did you ever get to try MDMA or MDA?
A: Again, not by that name, but we snorted all flavors of powder with out knowing exactly what we were ingesting. Some times speedy, or trippy, or whacked out crazy sloppy falling down giggling madness(in a good way). It was sold as THC, $15 for a 1/4 teaspoon(scales were for hash and weed)2 or 3 doses in a 1/4.
Q: What's the most LSD you've seen in person?
A: Several hundred. I wasn't a big mover of acid. Never part of the 'lot' scene. I'd get a hundred microdots or blotters every couple weeks, sell about 60 or 70 to break even and keep/share the remaining free ones.
Q: What's the most marijuana you've seen in person?
A: I saw a couple 55lb.(25kilo) bales of columbian when it first came around.
Q: Which drug do you wish you had tried?
A: I'd like to try true MDMA, and some of these fancy scmanchy RC's ya'll seem to enjoy so much.
Q: Which drug do you wish you hadn't tried?
A: Not so much the drug, but the method. IV really fucked me up. Meth was the worst, coke was the most exhilarating and expensive, and heroin was my absolute favorite. During my IV fascination craze, I ran through all the Pharms that would dissolve in water. Even tried Chloral hydrate and Placidyl.
Q: What would you say is the most inspiring/heart warming/beautiful thing you ever saw at a festival?
A: I wasn't into the festival scene much, but I'd say the general good vibe/ aura of thousands of people tripping, each on their own plane, yet all together.
Q: What is the worst thing you saw happen at a festival or in the drug game in general?
A: Not at a festival, but I saw a guy obviously in some stage of an OD at a party. Couple guys took him out side and threw him in the snow. They went to check on him a few hours later and he wasn't there any more.
I did see a .38 stuck in my face over a 1/2 pound of weed.
Q: What is the craziest thing you ever saw happen at a festival?
A: At the Yes, Peter Frampton Bicentennial Concert at John F. Kennedy Stadium in S. Phila in 1976, over 100,000 people there. My first introduction to a laser light show while out of my mind on 4 or 5 blotters. Not sure how I made it home.
Q: What are your spiritual beliefs?
A: I'm christian, believe in a God and an after life. Not sure what kind of afterlife.
Q: What is the most interesting celebrity you've met?
A: The strangest was Manute Bol, all 7'7" of him. I met Harrison Ford at a Fridays, Phila Eagles linebacker Bill Bergey in a bar, Nirvana's Kurt, Krist, Dave and Courtney Love back stage at SNL plus some of the SNL crew.
Q: What role, if any, do you think the Shroomery plays in global consciousness?
A: That's a tough one. I think the psychedelic consciousness most of us share here at the Shroomery unfortunately isn't enough to move the main stream towards "getting it".
What with the condition the world is in; religious zealots, poverty, war, crime and violence, pollution, the struggle for and hoarding of the almighty dollar, euro, yen what ever, the global community couldn't care less. My generation is running out of time.(I know I am) It's up to the next generation to figure it out.
Q: If you could do one thing to change the world, what would it be?
A: Shit, I don't know.
"I'd like to build the world a home and furnish it with love. Grow apple trees and honey bees and snow white turtle doves.
I'd like to teach the world to sing in perfect harmony. I'd like to hold it in my arms, and keep it company.
I'd like to see the world for once all standing hand in hand. And hear them echo through the hills for peace throughout the land."
No coke, pepsi
Q: Tell us something about yourself that no one knows?
A: I went bowling one time when I was 12 or 13. I was a little long haired wanna be hippie. Shoe rental lady asks me "what size?" I tell her and she gave me GIRLS bowling shoes.
My first attempt at crime. I was 11. I got caught stealing "The Ballad of Bonnie and Clyde". I didn't even have a record player. That was my first ride in a police car, too. Needless to say my folks were none too happy.
. . .
Q: How did your feet get injured?
A: That's a bunion on my left foot. Maybe from tight shoes, work boots? I worked a lot of demo jobs and it was rough walking through the debris.(My left is bigger than the right). It just got so painful I opted for the Knife.
Q: I forgot to ask what year you first tried psychedelics?
A: Probably around 1970 - 71? 8th grade, doing PCP pills.
Q: You mentioned that you were a drug dealer. Do you feel comfortable giving us some more details (types of drugs, volume, etc) on that as well as more details about the sex life that went with that lifestyle at the time?
A: I started selling weed at the end of 7th grade, mostly dime bags (1/2 oz. Mexican) My older brother moved a lot of weight at the Ivy league schools. I used to pinch from him until I found my own sources. Next year, Red Leb and black opiated hash were around, 5 - $7 g., plus shit loads of white crosses at 50 cents each. Those little fuckers were some good speed.
My 10th grade year I was with my parents and younger brother touring Europe, Turkey and Morocco, from Sept to May. My step father was a history Prof. and took his Sabbatical( 1 year off paid). That story is for another time, although I did score 100g Moroccan hash for 20 bucks. I smoked that for 4 months and smuggled what was left into New York.( about 20 -25 g.)
By 11th grade, Columbian and Jamaican hit the scene as well as Thai sticks a little later. Mex was 20, Jamaican 30, and Colombian 35 - 40 oz. Pharms were becoming available then, too. My customers love the reds and tuinals. The yellow Jackets seemed to make people mean and aggressive. Go figure. Around this time and came around. People couldn't get enough. This was when I found out about LSD. (Learyfan, that windowpane pic is spot on) I sold several hundreds of hits of microdot and blotter, but I didn't deal at concerts. Mainly at school and around town.
Later, after school I discovered meth, coke, heroin, angel dust and a guy with a pharmacist on the hook. We could get practically anything; Percs, Vicodin, liquid Fentanyl, morphine tabs and liquid, a couple times pharmaceutical coke, all kinds of tranks, muscle relaxants, ups, downs. Hell Dilaudid 3's were only $5 each, some times less. We would look through the PDR like it was a Sears catalog and order some thing new.
Q: What was your most interesting sexual experience?
A: Like I said, I've always been fairly monogamous, but one time, I think there were 5 or 6 couples partying in this guys basement, listening to Uriah Heep, and we all just got naked and started fucking. We were lined up almost like sardines in a can.
Q: Why do you think you probably tried STP/DOM, but aren't sure?
A: The powdered drugs didn't have names except THC. The effects we got from snorting them were all over the board, hallunations not quite acid or PCP, some times speedy. After checking Erowid, I'm not so sure. The shit we snorted usually had a rather quick on set, but some times did have a long duration(1 day+)
Q: What kinds of problems did you have with the law during your drug days?
A: I was busted at a high school with a lb. of pot, packaged to go ( 8 oz., 16 1/2's) plus pharms, my syringe kit, a scale, baggies and a brand new PDR. I was there to pick up a chick to take her out for lunch. I didn't know that she got caught with the 1/2 oz I gave her the night before. "Set up like a bowling pin". I think I was 20 at the time. I spent 1 week in this shit hole , where they filmed some of “Law Abiding Citizen”
Funny part of my arrest was the police chief commented on my new PDR (his was 3 years old), and when he found my Amyl Nitrite. I had 2 broken 'poppers' in a brown glass vitamin bottle. Top cop says "What's in here?'. He unscrews the lid and sniffed it. I almost pissed my self laughing as he got all red in the face and yells "What the fuck was that?" He threw me back in the cage.
I had 2 jury trials with hung juries. the third trial they dropped all charges.(no probable cause and illegal search and seizure). I had a good drug lawyer and it cost me like $8,000.
A few years later, I'd been moving a lot of biker crank, mostly grams, never more that a 1/2 oz., just street level stuff. I was really strung out from using meth and I kinda dropped my guard. I sold a 1/2 lb. to these 2 bearded rough looking 'truck drivers'. They wanted to take it out west because there wasn't much good meth available out there. That was their story, and I bought it. They even smoked their weed with me. I got a 1/2 lb for 5G, sold it to them for 6G. Next thing I know, task force UC's and uniformed come rushing in both doors. I got shot guns and pistols in my face. My room mate is kinda freaking out because he didn't know I was dealing that much. Just a little bit here and there.
Anyway, a chick I sold to had been busted for burglary and receiving stolen property and gave me up. She introduced them to me. My drug lawyer wanted 2G up front and 3G at the end. He got me a deal; 1 count possession, 1 count Poss. with intent to deliver. 11 1/2 to 23 months county time. I did 13 months.
Q: Tell us about the time someone stuck a gun in your face?
A: A 'friend' I had dealt with for a few years, even shot dope with, wanted a lb. We meet at a church parking lot about 10PM. He walks up, "Hey how ya doing and shit, ya got it?". He sticks a 38 snub nose practically in my nose and starts yelling "Gimme it gimme it! I'll fuckin' blow your head off!" I could tell he was kooked the fuck out on meth, plus he was much bigger than me, so I hand it over. He grabs my keys from the ignition and tosses them over in the weeds, then splits. Took me like an hour to find them.
Q: Like MentalMeltdown, I would also like to hear a lot more about the time you went to SNL and got to go backstage. How did it happen? What did you say to Nirvana and what did they say to you? Didn't you meet Charles Barkley?
A: I met Nirvana back stage in 1992. I wanted autographs on my Nevermind CD. They were in their Green room. I approached them and Courtney kinda put up her hands saying no. I said, "I just wanted to tell you, you guys are great! Can you sign this?" This was between sets. She gave the CD to the guys and they signed it. Both her and Kurt looked zonked on H. Their 2nd set didn't sound all that great and yes they busted shit up.
The next week I saw Robbie Robertson back stage briefly, but security wouldn't let me near him to get an autograph. A few weeks later, SNL brass did give me some comp. tickets for a show with Jerry Seinfeld hosting and Annie Lennox as musical guest. It was kinda cool. It was the dress rehearsal, 9 to 11 pm. They try out some extra skits, and depending on audience response, cut it down to 1.5 hours. I was able to GTFO of the city and catch the show at home at 11:35PM. At the time I was doing asbestos removal for NBC. We're working in their mechanical room which was the entire 10th floor. SNL studios were on the 8th and 9th floors. We worked 10PM to 4 or 6 AM as this was the only time they could shut down the HVAC units we were working on. SNL had their own HVAC on their floor.
30 Rock had pretty good security. We were practically locked on our floor, all elevators locked out from stopping on the 10th floor, except for one that was designated for us. There were I think 8 stairwells, and most were locked to prevent entry back on to the floor. Well good ole stairwell F wasn't locked. I could walk down 2 flights and it put me back stage at Studio 8H.
There's at least 20 - 30 people hanging out back there , not counting the cast... (make up, A/V guys, set movers, catering people, invited guests)... I just had to act like I belonged. I would dress kinda nice and blend in. That's how I got to chat with David Spade and Tim Meadows. Most of the cast have to move quickly between set, make up , checking their script etc., so weren't really approachable. Besides, I did have about 10 or 15 Latino and Polish guys in HazMat suits handling a known carcinogen 2 floors up that I was supervising.
Later on around 2 or 3AM after every one left, I'd go back down to get some of the left overs from the caterers. They usually had a nice spread. I had to get there before house keeping though. They just threw all that shit out.
Never met Sir Charles, but the way I met Manute Bol was LOL. This was in the afternoon , 1 floor up from Lettermans studio. My little Ecuadorian foreman comes running over to me, "Mira, mira. Boss come look. Iz big black man in elevator." I swear his head was about belt buckle high next to Manute. They had brought him up in the freight elevator, either for security or his height.. Some where I have a pic of me sitting in Daves seat, feet up on his desk, with a cigar. This was before he went to CBS.
I did meet Chris Rock last winter at a mall. My wife takes pictures of kids with Santa, and his kids were in line. I just said Hi and Hey, love your stuff. He had his coat collar up and baseball cap pulled down, trying not to be noticed. I gave him his space.
Damn, that's more typing than I've done all month.
