Confirmation secondary i.d. request - better pics possible gymnopilus

Hey guys, so I think I got better pictures this time because in the last post the mushroom showing the gills was partially dried and had gotten darker, so here's some closeups of the little ones. I'm sorry if this isn't necessary, I just want to make sure I don't poison myself. amatoxins don't sound fun. But I really think they are gyms.

Rusty orange, didn't take a print but that's what was on my fingers after handling the larger specimens

I should add that these are immature specimens, use my first post as a reference point for older ones

If you look in my first post you can see much bigger mushrooms that resemble gyms more. It has been identified as gymnopilus luteus by several people on this forum but I am posting this to confirm that it really is.

Yes it is. Here, I'll add the first pictures

The last one is partially dried.

According to that "partially dried" picture I would say gymnopilus for sure. Dont take my word for it. Do the caps have very small dark hairs at all?

Ya I am pretty freaking sure they are gyms. Hmm, perhaps. They are shredded and dried now but I'm pretty sure I remember very small dark fibres coming out of the cap, I thought it was dirt at first it's very hard to explain. So I'm pretty sure yes there was, but I don't think there is any on the young ones. Wow I just zoomed in on the partially dried pic and where the cap folds over you can kind of see dark fibres, and they are visible on the stem too, just zoom in on the picture you'll probably see it. It could be just dirt though.

Hmm maybe compare to gymnopilus aeruginosus and luteoviridis and then report back.

Luteoviridis was the first species I researched before I posted the first one, they don't seem to have the ring around the stem that these do, otherwise luteoviridis would be it. I don't think it is aeruginosus. Check out this picture of luteus, the one on the far right looks a lot like what I'm finding. This picture looks very much like what I have.

I really want them to be lutes, and just that picture. Damm. Looks so similar. I'm starting to think they are indeed luteus, but I just want to make sure.

Can you get some pics of the microscopic features, such as the cheilocystidia, pleurocystidia, pileus trama, caulocystidia and pileocystidia? A lot of Gymnopilus ID is based on microscopic features, a lot of species look alike macroscopically. If you can not get microscopy pics, the next best thing is as many fruit bodies as possible in all different stages of development. Tiny ones so you can see the color of the veil, and large old ones to see the maximum size.

Unfortunately I do not have a microscope although I am thinking about buying one. And that's why I took these pics, to show what they look like when they are young. The two pins inside of the log in my first post grew to what is shown in this post, and then in my first post the specimen growing on the log is a little smaller than full size. They get pretty big. I couldn't get a clear shot of this gills and ring, I know but the ring is red on some, orange on others, reddish brown on others, but mostly a rusty red color, sort of like the spores.
Tl;dr first post shows older specimins and pins, second post shows young specimins that were the pins originally, ring is reddish

That's what I like to hear! I don't have anything else to reference but that smell is very unique. Very hard to describe, but it smells like what I would imagine gyms should smell like

It would be a good idea to go to a local university and use their scopes for awhile to see if it is something you would enjoy doing at home. You could email some people in the biology department and ask them if you could scope a Gymnopilus for a bit...
Often universities have really nice scopes with cameras attached...

that sounds good. I just checked the gallery on this website of lutes, and some of the pictures were so similar like this one:
Right there. That's what I have. But then pics like this throw me off
See how the second pic is "cleaner?" What I have looks like the first picture, not like the second.

Your finds are g.luteus bro. The high persistent annulus and colors are spot on. Try taking small pins or aborts and you'll notice more vivid bruisng especially when fresh.
Gyms loose potency with age and drying.
About 15 dry gr of heady looking ones will make you laugh and feel wonderfull. They are very mellow compared to pure psilocybin species. Gyms have un named substances tht make the experiences unique.
Save up some pretty ones and let us know how the journey goes.
They taste HORRIBLY HORRIBLY bitter so be ware lol
