Hendrix wasn't a drunk or a junkie. He definitely worked hard. Do you really think that someone who rehearses, tours, records albums and builds a recording studio doesn't work hard?
As for the rest whatever dude, think what you want.
He wasn't a drunk and a junkie?

Drug use and violence A black and white "mug shot" of an arrested man. Arrest photo in Canada, 1969
Hendrix was widely associated with the use of psychedelic drugs, particularly lysergic acid diethylamide. He first experimented with the drug when he met Linda Keith in late 1966; he had previously smoked cannabis. He also used amphetamines, particularly while touring.[194] Friends and bandmates reported that Hendrix would often become angry and violent when he drank too much alcohol.[195] Though illicit drugs alone did not seem to produce a significant negative effect on him, when he mixed them with alcohol, he would often become incendiary.[196] Hendrix's friend, Herbie Worthington, explains: "You wouldn't expect somebody with that kind of love to be that violent ... He just couldn't drink ... he simply turned into a bastard."[197] A girlfriend of Hendrix's, Carmen Borrero, required stitches after he hit her above her eye with a vodka bottle during a drunken, jealous rage.[197]
In January 1968, the Experience travelled to Sweden for a one-week tour of Europe. During the early morning hours of the first day, Hendrix became engaged in a drunken brawl in the Hotel Opalen in Stockholm, smashing a plate-glass window and injuring his right hand, for which he received medical treatment.[197] The incident culminated in his arrest, though the authorities released him pending a court appearance on the 16th.[198] The remainder of the tour was uneventful, though Hendrix had to spend some time in Sweden awaiting his trial, which resulted in a large fine.[199] After the burglary of his house in Benedict Canyon, California, while under the influence of drugs and alcohol, he punched his friend Paul Caruso and accused him of the theft. Hendrix then chased Caruso away from the residence while throwing stones at him.[200]
On May 3, 1969, while checking through Canadian customs at Toronto Pearson International Airport, authorities arrested Hendrix for drug possession after finding a small amount of heroin and hashish in his luggage. After being released on a CAN$10,000 cash bail the same day, only four hours before his show was scheduled to begin, the Experience performed at Maple Leaf Gardens that night. The courts required Hendrix to appear before a judge at a later date. In his trial defense Hendrix claimed that a fan had slipped the drugs into his bag without his knowledge; he was acquitted of the charges.[201]

Well, if Wikipedia says he got drunk twice and was acquitted on heroin possession charges, then he must be a drunken junkie that can't work hard.

just pretty much read quickly through the whole thread. we can (and do) argue about who the "best" guitar player is for years and years and years. when it comes down to it we all know no one is the same and we all have our own unique opinion about music. my friends and I have had this argument a million times. we finally decided that when you get to the level that hendrix was on, along with guys like j. page, clapton, srv, duane allman, ect(countless others those are just some of my personal favs) their is no "best" their is just different, and the "best" is what sounds best to you.
according to my ears i would definitely put hendrix pretty high on my personal "best" guitar player list. he had electrifying playing and unique sound, and influenced an unknown amount of other musicians. oh, and if by sold his soul you mean he worked his ass off and practiced every single day then yeah he sold it right to the devil.

If you ask almost any guitar virtuoso who the greatest guitarist of our time is; they'll most likely say Allan Holdsworth. Almost nobody knows about the guy and it's a shame.

Jimi is the greatest ever, but not necessarily because of his guitar playing skill level. He wrote a ton of classic songs, which most of the other guitar greats mentioned in this thread didn't do. He played a huge role in the hippie/psychedelic movement. He was very innovative. He opened the doors of creativity for all other guitar players with the way he played. At the time, it was like nothing anyone had ever heard. Before Jimi, guitar playing was in black and white. When he was done, it was in technicolor.

Never really been a fan of hendrix. I don't feel the "soul" and whatnot in his playing like I hear about.
I don't think I've heard him stray from a pentatonic or blues scale at all. Ever.
Gets pretty boring to me.

This is quite the crock of shit. He wrote a ton of classic songs? He didn't write Red House, Hey Joe, All Along the Watchtower. Just what did he write that is such a classic? He changed music? I think not. Quote:

This got pretty far off topic. First, how deep can you throat Jimi's dick? For real, I've never seen such impressive celebrity cock-worshiping before. Second, Jimi sucks. It's not a matter of who's the best, just letting you know that it's definitely not Jimi.
Who gives a fuck and a shit if he's left or right handed? That has absolutely zero impact on learning to play an instrument; something we can't ever be sure hendrix even bothered to try.
