Detachment from material possessions (bicycle stolen) * 2
    #18774078 - 08/29/13 04:58 PM (10 years, 5 months ago)

Today I walked out of my apartment to see that my bicycle had been stolen. My only thought was meh, guess I'll be walkin'. It really doesn't bother me that much. I care so little that it's not worth reporting.

Some scum-fuck stole from me. I should be at least a little angry, right? Would you be angry?

This got me thinking: What if they had stolen my car instead? Certainly I'd be a little more emotionally involved in the situation if that happened. I'm not certain though. I live within walking distance of any place that I need to be on a daily basis. Not having a car would be a minor annoyance; it's almost as minor as not having a bicycle.

There are certain things that would bother me if they got stolen. My classical guitar for one. Also, if somebody stole/ruined my paintings (for whatever reason) I'd be extremely upset, not because they are amazing pieces of art but because I put my heart and soul into them.

I'm not sure if I'd be upset if somebody stole my computer; I was much more productive and creative when I didn't have one.

This really got me thinking about how much I really care about all this shit laying around my apartment.

if it doesn't bother you thats a good thing  and yeah its helpful with detachment. I gave away my video game systems a while ago as an exercise in detachment...which it definitely taught me something about.

after all when we die we have to give up all our possessions, so its good to practice at least some detachment while alive

I got my smartphone stolen recently. It sucks 'cause I used it a lot as a camera, mp3, games, internet etc but after a few weeks I realize that not having such things isn't a big deal.

I'll still buy one as soon as I have the money though :mel:
