This exactly. And Ole Robin Thicke needed to do something to stop  his sliding career also apparently.

Serious? He has THE hit of the summer.

The more bizarre she gets and the more everyone hates her the more I find her antics appealing. I don't really follow that stuff, but I love listening to people bitch about pop stars. It's fucking hilarious.

THE hit huh, guess i just knew better than to listen to him. But still my opinion stays. He needed MORE fame? I mean he is like 36 or 38 correct? and she is 20?

why is everyone obsessed with that Blurred Lines song?

I don't even think I've heard it all the way through even once.

I dunno, it's really obnoxious. I wonder if Marvin Gaye's estate won or will win that lawsuit, but I don't wonder enough to look it up.

Personally I think it's a stretch. Probably an obvious influence, but doesn't really seem lawsuit worthy.

Then again I couldn't even being to tell you if it's the same chord progression or not, I'm sure someone who knows a bit more about music (and music theory) would have a better say than I.

I'm glad she did what she did.  Women should be just as free to be sexual as men.  She's an unwitting soldier in the fight for sexual equality.  Anyone who disses her for what she did is a straight up prude who, whether they know it or not, wants to repress female sexuality.

I think what she did made her look like a sex object more than anything.

I'm all for sexual expression. I think it's irritating when women have to resort to sexual objectification to get any attention. I just watched it for the first and only time, it was literally like a few seconds of twerking or whatever. I'm not saying it's trashy or anything like that, I just think she was an object in that performance. She wasn't showing off any talent, she was a prop and that's it. I'm all for freedom of sexual expression. I'm against things that reinforce the idea that women are sexual objects and nothing more, so that's why I think it was a shitty performance. I'd never call her a whore, trashy or whatever everyone else seems to be saying right now.

Yeah I don't even think it's close. Miley did that to draw publicity, whereas I think Bynes literally lost her mind. Like Amanda Bynes is in a mental ward state of mind and has been for quite some time now.

I think the concept of the term "sex object" suggests female sexual repression in and of itself.  When is it not okay for women to be sexy?  How sexy can they be before it's "bad"?  Why is it not okay to use sexuality to promote yourself or to make money?

The answer is it's all good and there should be no judgments.  But we've all been programed to think that women should only have sex for reproduction.  Any sex or sexuality that isn't for reproduction is a little "off" in our subconscious because we've been brainwashed.

Learyfan - you have a great point.

I just thought the whole thing was a bit weird, but whatever girl, shes obviously doing it right because she has the monehhhh.

All the power to her!

I also think prostitution should be legal.

I have not been brainwashed to think that. Sex for reproduction is the least important aspect in my own life.

When you're supposed to be performing showing your talents and all you have to get people's attention is acting like you're having sex, you're reinforcing the idea that women are only useful for their sexual abilities.

It's not that she was sexy that I'm saying is not okay (btw I don't think what she did was sexy at all) it's the simple fact that she relied entirely upon sexualization rather than talent. If she did the exact same thing and actually showed off her vocal talents as well, it would have been totally neutral in my mind. However, instead of showing off her own abilities in that part of the performance she was nothing more than a prop for her male counterpart.

Gwen Stefani already did what she did like what? 20 years ago? But because Miley Cyrus came from Disney she gets bashed.

True that, viv! While many of us bashed her (including myself) to pieces, and a large number of her Hollywood colleagues did so as well...that girl is still sporting a 150 million dollar net worth in that bank account of hers.

Pretty sure she's doing alright for herself
