As the joke goes, Americans like Montreal better because it's just like being in a foreign country.

It absolutely is not. I have spent a lot of time in both cities, they're pretty similar. And they're both fantastic.

Toronto and Montreal were similarly sized metropolitan areas in the late 80s. Toronto has ballooned in size since then, and Montreal has pretty much stagnated,

College...if you ever find yourself slacking or lacking motivation, take a semester break or two. I wasted some good money fucking around for a semester. I took a year off then came back ready to crush my courses. It's hard to get motivated for tough engineering classes though.

Waking up early is the only thing that I have trouble with so far. Everything else is gravy. I just need to fix my sleep schedule.

i can't do any class before 10am, and even then it's a stretch. i work until midnight mon-fri. one thing i try to do is allow myself for a nap in the afternoons. it's my saving grace. i just finished up my one class for the day and am about to finish my sandwich, lay in bed and read until i drift off until it's time to get up, cook dinner and sign into work (i work from home).
it's a grind man, especially if you don't have the luck to have parents who have thought far enough in the future to give you the resources it takes to make being a highly successful student easier (a car that's paid for and money to live on where you don't have to work a bullshit job).
keep at it and fuck the haters.

You're in for quite a shock when you graduate, get a job that starts earlier, ends later, and you still have to work with a bunch of idiots.

Montreal is a little cooler because you can buy beer everywhere.

I'm done with college, for now at least. I will eventually go back and get my graduate degree, but I'm working on figuring out what subject and if I wanna do masters or Ph.D.
Have fun but DON'T FUCK UP! Party in moderation, don't make the same mistake I made and let your GPA go to shit. Also, wrap it up when you bang people. College campuses are breeding grounds for STDs.

Montreal is definitely a prettier city, but my comment was purely about the music scene, and they're about the same IMO.
Montreal also gets BITTER cold in the winter, like Ottawa. It's awful. I love that about TO, very mild winters.

I've done three years of general science coursework (genchem, ochem, and genbio), all I've got left is the statistics, English, and general physics.
I have another year to go, which means now is the time to start filling out applications for "real" university. I'm a bit nervous ATM because my GPA isn't exactly sterling, and I really want to ultimately go on to get my PhD and be a major player in the cutting-edge brain research. If this doesn't work out I figure I'll go to some sort of engineering program at a vocational school-- not my first choice, but not a bad one all the same.
Sounds like you were in the same boat as me. Shit GPA, interested in neuroscience. If you haven't attempted to find an internship in a neuroscience lab, DO IT. Especially since you have a year left. I worked in a neuroscience lab for about 2 years as a research assistant. It was unpaid, but it was the experience that I got that helped. I have my second interview coming up in a few weeks for a paid position in a neuroscience lab. Get that experience or you are uber screwed. Most of my friends that got their bio degree and didn't do an internship are now managing retail stores or working some other menial job because no one will hire you without experience.

That, my friend, is a righteous ratio.

I'm gonna have to drop my early morning history class. But yeah, I have no money whatsoever, and no vehicle. I'm still loving the on campus experience though
